Meet Hrithik's Girl friend !
Hrithik Roshan and his girl friend Suzanne Khan are dating. Soon there will be an announcement of a formal engagement between them. But there are two aspects that Roshans may not have considered.
Hrithik had told that he saw Suzanne Khan across a traffic light and fell in love with her. Suzanne's side of the story is a little different. Apparently, Hrithik and she knew each other since they were kids, since they lived in the same locality. But LOVE didn't happen until she came back from the US, armed with an Associate Art Degree course in Interior Designing. Los Angeles and the US of A had done shy, reticent Suzanne, a great deal of good. America taught her to be herself and not be scared of doing something she believed in. She admits, "From an introvert, I was transformed into an independent girl!"
And that's the one quality Hrithik instantly liked and admired. He was still a raw actor, taking acting lessons and he hadn't started working. So the fact that young Suzanne was making something of herself impressed him.
Once Suzanne returned to India, she began to bump into Hrithik more and more often. But though there was a mutual admiration society happening, neither Hrithik nor Suzanne voiced their feelings, since both fight shy of declaring their emotions, generally. But the two became best friends and started to talk to and meet each other every day. And then, WHAM! It happened. Suddenly, the two realised that they were in love. Suzanne maintains, that neither of them verbally made a commitment but they knew that what they had, was RIGHT!
People who know Suzanne and Hrithik say that she calls him her Bholunath, because she thinks he is too naive and sweet for this world. Ask her if Hrithik has changed in any way after success hit him headlong and she says, "He is still my sweet little boy I fell in love with. He hasn't changed a bit."
What Suzanne apparently regrets, is the fact that Hrithik and she have lost all privacy and don't get too much time together. But she has willingly accepted the situation as being part and parcel of the game.
Very few people know that Suzanne was heavily involved in the making of Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai. For three months her own business took a backseat, as she tried to concentrate on the pre-release work. Suzanne even took on the onus of outfitting Hrithik in Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai.
Apparently, the only fear that was plaguing Suzanne before Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai released, was that the film had to do well. She had seen Hrithik working his bones off for his debut and she was worried about the fate of the film. Being a spiritual person, Suzanne even went to Shirdi with Hrithik to pray for the film.
Suzanne is an integral part of the Roshan family, say family friends of the Khans and the Roshans. There is no family event where Suzanne is not present. Hrithik's mother, Pinky Roshan and Suzanne, share a very close bond. In fact, when the Roshan family went on a long overdue holiday after the release of their film, it was Suzanne who accompanied them.

Maa & Mumbai closest to Govinda's heart
I am born and brought up in this sacred place called Mumbai, the name having been derived from the name of goddess Mumba Devi. One of the most remarkable feature of Mumbai is that whosoever comes to her sharan is blessed.
Thousands of people from all over the country pour into this Metropolis No 1 every single day. This land has the tremendous capacity to accommodate all and provide at least do waqt ki roti. The lucky ones succeed in different degrees. And someone like me has to be extraordinarily lucky. And blessed.
I indeed am Virar Ka Chhokra! Virar used to be a village then, with small cottages and old, dilapidated chawls dotting the place which had farms all over. Of course, we did not have any farm. We lived in a very small house on the first floor of Sheikh Chawl -- four sisters and two brothers. It was a lower middle class life, but our enjoyment level was absolutely top class! I mean, one enjoyed even standing in a bus queue with friends. Chhoti, chhoti khushiyan, chhote chhote ghum!
There was a make-shift kind of a cinema hall -- Mayur -- in our chawl. The ticket rate used to be Rs 1.50, but we being the chawlites, would be allowed free, provided all the tickets were not sold out. I still remember, we felt very special and behaved like the big bosses of Mayur Theatre. I never missed any of Amitji's and Dharamji's films. I would sell raddi papers and buy tickets with that money.
I studied in Marathi medium schools -- Ramkrishna Paramhans Primary School and Vidya Mandir High School. That explains why I am so conversant with this language. All my teachers really love me. I was a good student who wasn't very naughty. The only time I was punished was when some of us had bunked classes to watch the Heeralal Pannalal shooting in Virar itself.
The first film I had signed was Tan Badan, to be made by my uncle. But on the same day, I was signed for Love 86 also. The next three nights I could not sleep, as I was so excited. Two films in just 9 hours was too much for me! My first most precious purchase was the saree I bought for my mother. I had done an ad for Ravi Chopra, who paid me Rs 5,000. That was my very first kamai. I had gone and bought a saree for my mother from a shop in
Santacruz.
I know people wonder why I keep mentioning my mother all the while. She was, is and will be my God! On every birthday, I used to wash her feet and drink that water, as long as she was there. Ab unki yaad mein aansoo pee leta hoon!

Tabu's Hollywood plans
After Manoj Night Shyamalan, Ismail Merchant, A R Rehman, Shekhar
Kapur and Om Puri it's the turn of versatile actress Tabu to foray
into Hollywood.
"I want to get an agent" she told the California newspaper
'India-West' during 'star Encounter', a networking event held on board
the 'Empress' at San Francisco Bay, where Tabu was the guest of honor.
Referring to talented Indians who have broken through and established
their credentials in Hollywood she said "they make it easier for
people like me to make it".
Winner of the National Award for 'Maachis', Tabu also won the Filmfare
Best Actress Award for 'Viraasat'. Though Tabu entered the industry as
small time actress Farha's younger sibling, she far outshone her and
is an actress par excellence today.

New Jersey teenager in Bollywood
Barely out of Class 9, Aarati Agrawal is another NRI actress in the
lines of Neelam, Anjali Jhaveri et al who has come to try her luck in
the Hindi film industry. Sporting a Yankee accent from New Jersey, she
is all set to make her debut in Paagalpan. This movie is being
produced by 'Good Knight' Mohan who had earlier made Gardish, Kabhi Na
Kabhi and is currently readying his Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya for
release.
Paagalpan is a love story in which Madhuri Dixit's secretary Rikku
Nath's son, Karan and Aarati co-star with each other. "I am glad that
I am making my debut with a director like Joy Augustine who has a hit
film like Tere Mere Sapne to his credit," quips Aarati.
She admits she has been very lucky. "It is like I got my break on a
platter without having had to knock at any doors," she says. Aarati
went through a rigorous three and a half month training course at Asha
Chandra's acting academy. "However talented you may be, you need a lot
of polishing before you face the camera. So my stint with Ashaji
prepared me thoroughly," she says.
Like the typical groomed newcomer, Aarati learnt Kathak and other
classical dances from Pandit Tulsidas Mangeshki, who had earlier
taught other luminaries from show business like Asha Parekh and Juhi
Chawla. She also learnt jazz dance while in America, from where she
did her school till Class 9. "I intend appearing for Class 10 from
Mumbai through correspondence," says Aarati. She has also promised her
father that she will continue with her studies for medicine along with
her acting stint.
Like any aspiring actress, Aarati admits she has role models like
Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit but she wants to carve her own special place
in the industry. So what's her take on exposure?
"Having been brought up in New Jersey, wearing hot pants is no big
deal as far as I am concerned but I will certainly draw the line when
it comes to wearing clothes which may end up projecting me in an
obscene manner. In Paagalpan I play a tomboyish character so I'll be
seen mostly in pants." Aarati is also keen on working with big
filmmakers like Subhash Ghai, Aditya Chopra and the like. But she
says, "It has been a pleasure working with a director like Joy. He has
taught me a lot."

And now, fragrant movies!
A revolutionary concept in cinema viewing, which may go a long way in
fighting cable piracy, will be introduced on June 23. Nagalingam
revolves around making cinema a fragrant experience and is helmed by
Babu Ganesh, who has not only acted in, produced, directed, but also
handled many other aspects of this Tamil film.
Apparently, the theatre will be filled with fragrance whenever there
is a scene showing flowers on the screen or, say, when the heroine
performs a pooja in the temple where aromatic incense is being
burning. Likewise, there will be fragrance of different kinds of
flowers in the theatre, before and after the interval.
This has been made possible with a very small investment of Rs 1,500
per show by using a dry ice machine to spread the fragrance suiting
the sequence on the screen. Jaipur's Rajmandir cinema used to do this.
It used to spray perfumes of different fragrances in its various
air-conditioners during the shows, irrespective of the scene on the
screen. It used to be a different experience for the viewers.
Coming back to the present revolution, Ganesh hopes the movie, made at
a medium budget of Rs 70 lakh in this age of high-budget films, will
fetch big returns. He is also ready to help anyone who wants to take
advantage of his experiment, free of cost.

Hindi films hot in Britain
Bollywood films are achieving unprecedented success in Britain, even
beating Hollywood movies at the box office, media reports said. The
extravagant film dramas for which the Mumbai studios are renowned are
holding their own at the British box office against films made in US.
Bollywood was taking on Hollywood and winning on occasion, noting that
three Bollywood productions had recently entered the top 10 list on
the basis of taking in Britain. Three Bollywood productions recently
entered the UK top ten list of takings. "Dil Se," a fast-paced
terrorist action musical adventure, spent longer in the top 10 than
"Battlefield Earth", starring John Travolta, and "Saving Grace,"
starring Brenda Blethyn. The popularity of Hindi movies is not
confined to Asian audiences or to parts of Britain with large Asian
population. Even non-Asian cinema-goers are queueing up to see the
increasingly sophisticated productions, enticed by the popularity of
Asian dance music. Internet sites and television channels dedicated to
the genre, which developed in Bombay, are also contributing to the
boom. Bollywood actors are increasingly being feted in the way their
counterparts from Hollywood are. Marking the trend, the first ever
annual Indian film awards will be held at the Millennium Dome here
next Saturday. Sponsors of the ceremony, which will be hosted by Yukta
Mookhey, current Miss World, include Marks and Spencer -- another
indication of the genre's penetration of the mainstream. Top
Yash Raj Films first to make insurance claim
For the first time in the history of the Hindi film industry, a
reputed production house has claimed a compensation of nearly Rs 35
lakh from its insurers, for a delay in the completion of its film.
Yash Raj Films India Ltd has claimed compensation for delay in the
shooting of their forthcoming film "Mohabattein" caused by an injury
to the heroine, Aishwarya Rai and a subsequent business interruption
loss, said the assistant general manager of United India Insurance
Company Ltd, Vijay Pawar. Yash Raj Films had insured the movie for Rs
15 crore in September, 1999. The chief accounts officers of Yash Raj,
said "Mohabattein" which is scheduled for a Diwali release has been
delayed for more than a month due to Aishwarya's injury. The incident
occurred in February. "Mohabattein" is the second big-budget film to
be insured by United India, the first one being Subhash Ghai's "Taal"
for Rs 12 crore. Top
Manisha's 'elephantine' problem!
Manisha Koirala has a problem at hand. No, this time it's not a new lover or heartbreak, just that she's rubbed a very unlikely VIP the wrong way.
Politician and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi is seeing red these days if anyone even mentions the Nepali beauty's name before her. And while Manisha's not gone ahead and shot a few black bucks in some Jodhpur thicket like Salman Khan (say, where was Maneka was then?!), a particular scene of her forthcoming starrer, Raja Ko Rani Se Pyaar Ho Gaya, is reportedly 'objectionable' according to Ms Gandhi.
For, animal-lover Gandhi has taken serious offence to a shot where Manisha is shown pulling the tail of a baby elephant. While Ms Gandhi has threatened to take the actress to court for cruelty against animals, this is one piece of juice that should grow yummy with time. Knowing Manisha as well as we do, Maneka certainly has caught the wrong cat by the tail!
