Bollywood stars thrill Malaysians in movie shoot
Kuala Lumpur: The filming of a movie starring top Indian movies stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, in Kuala Lumpur has driven Malaysian fans into a frenzy, with huge crowds flocking to the location sites over the weekend, reports said.
Crowds of people gathered for a rare glimpse of their idols when they learnt that the movie was being shot at the Kuala Lumpur Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers, the world's tallest building. The actors are among the 33-member cast, which also includes actor Jackie Shroff, and crew, which is in the Malaysian capital for a month to film three songs for their latest movie, "One Two Ka Four."
Malaysians, especially the country's majority Malays, are huge fans of India's Hindi-language movies, where the plots are mostly love stories and invariably include numerous song-and-dance routines. The boyish-looking Khan is extremely popular after his hit movie two years ago, "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai."
The Indian actors yesterday night performed at a charity concert in Kuala Lumpur, organised by the wives of Cabinet Ministers. Present at the concert was Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad.

M F Hussain to face trial
Noted painter M F Hussain, who shot into controversy by painting `nude' portraits of some Hindu goddesses four years ago, will face trial in a Delhi court for allegedly "disturbing communal harmony".
All the nine cases filed against him in various parts of the country, which were earlier transferred to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) R K Gauba here, will now be heard by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Patiala house.
Nine cases were filed against Hussain at Dhanbad, Siwan, Danapur and Ranchi in Bihar, Bhopal, Raipur and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, Chiplun and Mumbai in Maharashtra after his paintings depicting Hindu goddesses Durga, Saraswati and Mahabharata character Draupadi in nude were published in 1996.
The complainants alleged Hussain's paintings "hurt Hindu sentiments, promoted enmity between different religious groups and were against the dignity of women."

Devgan's IPO and entertainment portal in doubt
Two months ago, Ajay Devgan was all beaming with excitement about launching his bollywod portal on the net and going public. It seems his Plans Ko Sona Hi Tha. Then what can be the reason behind this delay.
Sources say that Ajay's marriage with Kajol has gone kaput due to Mahima who is known to be getting closer to Ajay. After all Dil Kya Kare!. Kajol who was supposed to head the bollywood portal (yes, she knows how to surf and Ajay thinks the CEO should have this much knowledge!) is not taking that mush interest in her work. Also with the fate of Subhash Ghai's IPO in the market (don't tell anybody we told you, the IPO received about 2000 applications), Devgan Entertainment and Software have postponed their IPO so as not to meet with a similar fate at the public office.
That's what we call making a public issue out of a personal issue.

Babita vows to put Kareena ahead of Aishwarya
If there's one girl who is all determined to oust Aishwarya from her numero uno position, she is Kareena Kapoor. No, Kareena Kapoor is not that shrewd, it is her mother Babita who is working plans on this. Since Aishwarya is known to get big banners due to her current position, Babita tries to woo her producers.
She even succeeded in dislodging Aishwarya from showman Subhash Ghai's forthcoming movie Yaadein. And if this grapevine is true, Shahrukh turned down Ash's offer to play the female lead in Ashoka - The Great.
Let's see whether the mother can throw Aishwarya from the no.1 position and install her daughter there.

Urmila: Losing Sizzle!
Just when we were beginning to wonder that this was one combination that would never go wrong, the audience has given it's verdict and yes proved us wrong! The hitherto invincibly lethal David Dhawan - Govinda combination might be losing edge if the first collections of 'Kunwara' are anything to go by. Apparently the collections in this Govinda- Urmila entertainer have started dipping in the first week itself. This despite Dhawan's direction and of course Chi Chi's inimitable bag of gags. Sadly the heat wasn't sustained despite the presence of sizzling Urmila. She's now got only dear Ramu's 'wild adventures', (we're talking about 'Jungle') to ensure she has something of substance to talk about. The industry is buzzing with talk of Ms. Matondkar being the next jinx to hit the industry. With a spate of duds like 'Hum Tum Pe Marte Hai', ' Jaanam Samjha Karo', 'Dillagi', 'Khoobsoorat', and now 'Kunwara', we don't blame them really.... Top
Award lost, Dev Anand prizes memories now
The award that evergreen hero Dev Anand received recently from U S First Lady Hillary Clinton, photographs of which were flashed in many newspapers here, is lost.
"Someone has flicked it", a rueful Dev Anand said after he realised the loss at the function at Sheraton Hotel in Manhattan in the United States, according to a report in 'The Asian Age' newspaper here. The cine legend was felicitated by the International Punjabi Society. Dev Anand was formally introduced to the First Lady and she presented him the award at the function.
Recounting, Dev Anand said "after the ceremony I was completely surrounded by the Indians there. Everyone wanted to shake hands with me, touch me, have a picture taken with me. I got so involved with the whole activity that I forgot my trophy on the table. I realised only after I reached my room. I called the management and had the whole hotel security look for it. But no luck."
The hero now can only draw consolation from the fact that he could at least meet the First Lady, something that he was really looking forward to. "Yes. I was eager to meet her. I formally invited her to India during my speech and she agreed. "However, he said he later mentioned to her that she should come as an ordinary citizen, a friend and not a State Guest, to see the real India.
Sans the award, the hero now has only fond memories to recall. "She is an excellent orator. Her style and language, are just amazing", he gushed. His only regret, he could not have a prolonged talk with the U S’s First Lady. He hopes to do that when she comes to India, sometime Top
Seeing divinity in Mamta
With a title like "Khajuraho", and the skimpily-clad Mamta Kulkarni for heroine, cinematographer-turned-director, Ashok Kumar's having a log of explaining to do, convincing takers that his multilingual opus is no sex film.
Of course, the fact that Mamta's playing a devdasi doesn't make matters easy. Neither does Ashok Kumar's career history. The man who caught the eye with the stunning visuals in "Jeans", is known for movies that celebrate the female form. It's happened once too often for comfort, and Khajuraho's having a rotten time fighting off the "sex" tag.
As for Mamta, let's hope Chennai offers her some respite. A mere also-ran in Hindi films, Mamta's had little luck going her way in subsequent outings in Malayalam and Telugu.

Now watch Tabu, Ash speak Tamil in film
For the first time in the history of Indian cinema a regional language commercial film will be screened at theatres across the country with English subtitles.
Rajiv Menon, an ad-filmmaker, cinematographer and a director is releasing his Tamil smash hit Kandukondein Kandukondein in all major cities with English subtitles instead of tried and tested dubbed versions.
Loaded with popular stars like Aishwarya Rai, Tabu and Mamooty, the film will naturally attract viewers, the medium in which the artistes express themselves will not really matter. Menon however disagrees. He says "Initially they (the audience) might flock the halls for the stars, but ultimately, it is the film, the story that will keep them to their seats and recommend it to their friends".
Kandukondein Kandukondein is a story of two sisters who are forced to leave their ancestral homes to move to an urban center. The film revolves around the sisters' effort to carve out successful lives for themselves in the city. Both Tabu, as the older, quiet sister and Aishwarya, as the younger piquant sibling, have given brilliant performances. Mammootty, as usual, dazzles.

JP set to make film on Kargil war
Buoyed by the tremendous public response to his film Refugee, the ace film director J P Dutta is all set to make a film on the Kargil war.
He is expected to meet top officials of the ministry of defence later this week to thrash out the details.
The director has evinced keen interest in capturing Operation Vijay on the celluloid. Fired by his passion for making realistic war films within the commercial format of Bollywood, Dutta recently got in touch with senior government officials and they have promised all logistical help to him, sources said here on Wednesday.
Known for presenting films in a grandeur style but retaining authenticity, Dutta expects to complete a trilogy of war films with this proposed venture. The other two films "Border" and " Refugee" were woven around the 1971 Indo-Pak war. While" Border" was shot on location in Rajasthan where the famous Laungewala battle was fought in 1971, "Refugee" saw Dutta capturing the beauty of Rann of Katch. Incidentally, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor made their debut in this film.
The bearded director shares a close bond with the armed forces due to his late brother. He was fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force and took part in the 1971 operations. He died in an air crash a few years back.
The Army and Air Force besides the Border Security Force (BSF) helped him in filming the war sequences in both the films. Dutta will be getting the same co-operation this time too, sources said.

Court cancels arrest warrant for actress Mamta Kulkarni
A city court has cancelled the non-bailable warrant against actress
Mamta Kulkarni in an obscenity case. During the hearing, the actress
also raised a legal question on whether she can be tried for the same
offence for which another court had convicted her. Although the court
is yet to give its ruling on her discharge plea, additional
metropolitan magistrate K.H. Holambe-Patil cancelled the warrant on
condition that Mamata shall pay a penalty of Rs 15,000 or undergo
judicial custody until July 28. The actress, who came to court in a
burkha, chose to pay the fine and sought cancellation of the warrant
issued against her by the police, alleging that she had posed
semi-nude on the cover of a film magazine in September 1993. On March
27, Mamta had filed an application seeking discharge from the case
because an Andheri magistrate had already convicted her for the same
offence on a complaint filed by the Janata Dal Mahila Mandal. Mamta
contended in her discharge application that the Andheri magistrate had
fined her Rs 500. She had filed an affidavit pleading guilty and
assured the court she would not commit the same offence again. Top
