Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai review
Tusshar) meets girl (Kareena). Bedazzled boy falls in love with girl but can’t muster up the courage to express himself. The storywriter of Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, the title notwithstanding, doesn't have much to say. So the onus is on the screenplay writers, Bholu Khan and Aman Jaffrey and the music team of composer Anu Malik and lyricist Sameer, to add body and pep to this interesting but wafer-thin plot. Fortunately, they do succeed to an extent and make the film crunchy enough for the Clearasil crowd it is clearly aimed at.
They also get the much-needed support from the triumvirate of young stars, Tusshar, Kareena and Rinke, whose hyperkinetic zeal is infectious.
To recap the proceedings: Tusshar is a duffer collegian who has to suffer his father Dalip Tahil’s barbs. His uncle (Amrish Puri) buffers Tusshar from his father’s gibes and encourages his extra-curricular activites which include facilitating elopements. Enter Kareena, an NRI with a mission — she wants to research Indian culture (now that's a subject that could take her the rest of her life!). She smiles for no rhyme or reason, has lots of long, cascading hair and a sexy sway. This vision's pearly white teeth dazzle Tusshar on first sight itself.
However, she disappears after a brief glimpse. A moony-eyed Tusshar searches high and low for her but there is many a slip between his and her lips. Each encounter, whether it is in a temple or a towering building, is abruptly interrupted. Unable to deal with it, he wails Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in a loud-pitched song that showcases his intensity rather well but falls deaf on her ears.
By a happy coincidence — a Hindi film staple — Tusshar rescues a sleepy girl from falling off the motor-cycle and Kareena witnesses it. Now it's her turn to give chase — she wants his autograph: yes, in the best chicken-soup-for-the-soul fashion, she collects autographs of do-gooders.
Finally, after many false alarms, the twosome meet. But an accident sends Tusshar reeling down the hills and the Mill and Boons romance spreads over many more reels. Tusshar’s sister, a wannabe doctor prescribes that he befriend Kareena before confessing,"I love you". To further add to his woes, he thinks Kareena wants to marry one dimly-lit Harry. Also, a birthday greeting written in blood by Tusshar makes Kareena’s blood boil and Tusshar’s courage cool.

Bollywood showman pours out heart in 'Yaadein'
NEW DELHI: For a change, Bollywood's greatest showman says he is not doing
it for fame or fortune, appreciation or awards. Subhash Ghai is pouring his
heart out on "what affected my inner emotions"
Yaadein (memories), Ghai's first venture of the new millennium promises to
be a harmonic bridge between the young and the old, with of course "deep and
intense" emotions.
Ghai's emotions blended with Anu Malik's music and Anand Bakshi's lyrics was
released for worldwide audience at a glittering ceremony here on Wednesday.
Music of Yaadein was released by Union Information Technology Minister
Pramod Mahajan in the presence of entire star cast of the film including
teenage heartthrob Hrithik Roshan and upcoming actress Kareena Kapoor
besides Ghai.
Tips bagged the domestic music rights of Yaadein at a record of Rs 6.5 crore
after the success of Ghai's earlier musical block buster 'Taal'.
The lead singers of Yaadein are Kavita Krishnamurthy, Alka Yagnik, Hariharan
and Udit Narayan.
The film is due for release by July end.

Krishan Kumar allowed to travel abroad
NEW DELHI: A city court on Thursday granted permission to Bollywood actor
Krishan Kumar, an accused in a FERA violation case relating to the
match-fixing scandal, to visit Australia from June 5 to June 20.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate V K Maheswari granted him
permission to visit Australia on condition of furnishing a bond of Rs 50
lakh and two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each. The court also directed him to
submit the itinerary of his visit to Australia.
Kumar, a director of the Super Cassettes Industries, was arrested for his
alleged role in hawala transactions to the tune of over Rs four crore in the
match-fixing scandal, which broke out after the series of matches between
India and South Africa in March last year.
Kumar had sought permission to visit Australia as he had been invited by a
company, P M Entertainment, in Sydney to explore the opportunity of
marketing and manufacturing cassettes and compact disks there.
The scandal had come to light with the arrest of a city-based businessman
Rajesh Kalra, on whose mobile phone then South African skipper Hansie Kronje
had allegedly talked to London-based bookie Sanjeev Chawla regarding
match-fixing, in the first week of April and subsequently Kumar was arrested
on April 14 by the enforcement directorate (ED).
However, he was granted bail on June 9 as the ED had failed to file a
complaint against him within the statutory 60-day limitation period.

Dev now upbeat about Love at Times Square
ndeterred by the flop of his last film, irrepressible director Dev Anand is busy scripting plans for his next movie.
The evergreen 77-year-old Anand, dubbed India's Gregory Peck at the peak of his acting career, is crafting a love triangle set in New York which he says will be his "best film".
The movie titled Love At Times Square is about two men -- one rich, the other middle class -- in love with the same woman. The heroine chooses between the two at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve at Times Square.
The climax of the film, which includes New Zealand-based soulful pop singer Lucky Ali as one of the lead actors, was shot at Times Square last New Year's Eve.
"It is an Indian love story set in the US. I want to make a big splash in the world with this film," Dev Anand, who has directed about a dozen films and acted in over 115 movies said.
The theme is as old as cinema itself, but Anand is confident.
"Love stories have a universal appeal," said the director who has written the film's script and also stars as the heroine's father.
Despite a string of box-office failures in the past few years, the never-say-die actor-director is unfazed and hopes to wrap up filming by the end of the year.
His last release, Censor, a story about the trials of a film-maker with a censor board, bombed at the box-office two months ago.
Anand, who has acted in some of the biggest Bollywood hits such as Guide and Hare Rama Hare Krishna, is now busy recording half a dozen songs that will spice up the "intense love story" costing over 80 million rupees.
The film's shooting, mainly in New York and picturesque locales in other parts of the United States, is expected to start in July after the songs are recorded.
Ali, who made a big-hit debut with his first music album O Sanam over three years ago, has also composed and sung one song in Anand's film.

Deepti Naval-Nana Patekar: Getting Together
Deepti Naval and Nana Patekar, who were romantically involved at one time, will be seen together on screen as husband and wife in Boney Kapoor's next film. Inspired by Not Without My Daughter, the film stars Sanjay Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, and Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance. All praise for producer Boney and co-star Nana, Deepti says, "They took good care of me." Deepti elaborates, "I was offered the film and shot for it after I had suffered a major accident. I was driving down from Pathankot after a sojourn to the Himalayas (as usual I just decided to motor down on an impulse) when a dog appeared from nowhere on an empty road. Instinctively, I swerved the car in a bid to save the dog and went crashing at top speed into a tree. My knees were smashed and I began bleeding profusely. Later on I had to undergo sixteen stitches in my mouth."
But Deepti put up a brave front during the shooting. "My stitches really hurt when I laughed but the unit would rag me about how I had invented a new kind of smile"she says.

Juhi's Magnanimous Gesture
Few people know that the role of Tusshar's sister in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, for which Rinke Khanna is currently winning raves, was originally offered to Juhi Chawla. Juhi had liked the role immensely and had even consented to do the film but when she realised that she was pregnant, she did a mujhe kuch kehna hai and told the makers to consider somebody else for her role. Since the film's aim was to launch Tusshar, Juhi didn't want to delay the film's making and voluntarily opted out.
Tusshar is not the only one who has benefitted from Juhi's decision, unwittingly so has Rinke, who is tipped to get her first taste of success with this film.

Nandita-Govinda: Will The Twain Meet?
We don't know what Nandita thinks of his films, but Nandita Das does feel that Govinda is a "hugely talented actor". Govinda too thinks Das is class.
This chalk and cheese couple recently bumped into each other at a chance meeting and after exchanging pleasantries, they echoed, "We must do a film together." This so enthused Govinda that he even took time off to narrate to Nandita a rollicking storyline. When Nandita reacted positively to this narration, Govinda quickly did a 'What is your mobile number?' and the two parted company with a promise to meet again.
Unfortunately, Nandita rues, "Neither Govinda nor I have taken the initiative to call each other." These two should really bridge their communication gap; even if only to enable us to see a film that bridges the art-commerce gap.

Manoj's Acid Test
After having won both accolades and hearts as the irrepressible Bhiku Mhatre in Satya, Manoj Bajpai became that rare character hero who made a smooth transition to hero roles. But Manoj's joyride as a Bollywood hero has been rather bumpy. Kaun and Shool were tepid at best while Ghaat, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar and Zubeidaa flopped. Now everybody's attention is focussed on Manoj's biggest release so far, Aks. The film is slated to release on June 15 and will decide whether he can join the ranks of saleable heroes.
Fortunately for Manoj, he has some formidable support in the film in the form of Amitabh Bachchan, Nandita Das and Raveena Tandon. Manoj, who started off by being awestruck by his longtime idol, Amitabh, often forgot his lines, but soon got over this and has delivered a superb performance in a grey-tinged role. "I wanted to use my success to extend the parameters of the definition of the Hindi film hero," says Manoj, "and I am very proud of Aks." Let's hope the box office agrees with Manoj.
