CHANDNI BAR director Madhur Bhandarkar has decided to tackle realistic issue. After a film on beer bar girls, the talented director is all set to make his next venture on undertrials. "That's true! I am currently doing research on the subject. I intend visiting the jails to know more closely," he says.
There is talk that Madhur will direct Shringar Films' first venture. "The talks are in progress, but nothing has been finalised yet," he divulges.

Rahul Dev: Making a mark
Rahul Dev has finally made his mark. Since his commendable performance in Champion, Rahul Dev hasn't looked back. He has made a mark in Hind films as a villain which the industry has welcomed with open arms. Maybe they badly needed a new fresh villain. Nevertheless, Rahul has been globetrotting ever since shooting for films like Padam Kumar's Supari, Vikram Bhatt's Aawara Paagal Deewana, Adip Singh's Mukt, Kalpana Lajmi's next with Karisma Kapoor, the films with producers Kishore (Manikchand) Dhariwal, Jayant Paranje and many more. He will soon be seen in Santosh Sivan's next and J P Dutta's LoC. With two of his films releasing next week namely, Shah Rukh Khan's Asoka and Sunny Deol's Indian, he would be getting some more offers and if he is really lucky, the award for the best villain, what say?

Yukta: Cheesed off
Yukta Mookhey makes no bones about her envious behaviour. Recently when she learnt that her arch rivals Priyanka Chopra and Diya Mirza were not only given hefty pay packets and film offers but also treated like royal queens on the sets, Yukta openly badmouthed the girls in print. Not only that! At a preview held recently, she bluntly told Kareena how she did not like Kareena in the promos of Asoka. Yukta desperately needs to tutor herself in etiquette, at least of the tongue!

Amisha: The Coke girl
Amisha Patel is flying high. After three consecutive successes namely Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Badri (a Telegu film) and Gadar, Ek Prem Katha, Amisha Patel is proud to be in a film like Gadar which earned her the 'actress' tag which is definitely more lucrative than the 'star' tag Kaho Na... got her. But that's not all, she has a string of releases coming up which have her in a spectrum of roles.. To add to her accomplishments, she has producers lining up for her to keep her booked till 2003. With so much happening for an actress, can endorsement offers be far behind? And what star is worth his or her endorsement if the cola companies are not vying for him/her? So Amisha Patel is the latest star to advertise for Coke.. Maybe after Kareena chose Pepsi, Amisha was the obvious choice for Coke trying to capitalize on the on going rivalry between the two actresses. Which simply means, one more feather and lots of moolah in Amisha's hat!

Sushmita angry with Hussain
After a lot of speculation over whether Sushmita Sen agrees to act in M F Hussain's next film or not, one had heard that Sush had finally given a go ahead to the project. If not for anything else then just out of respect for Hussain sahab. But the shooting for the film has not even started and Do Kadam Aur Sahi has run into trouble again. This time it seems, an irked Sushmita has walked out of Hussain's film because she just couldn't take Hussain showering his attention on Tabu for the brilliant performance in Chandni Bar. He even made a portrait of the actress. But poor Hussain seems to have got himself in a lose-lose situation. He has lost out on Sush and despite all the praises, he hasn't got Tabu to agree for his film either. Maybe if he finds a way to get Sush back the film will be on track again. Or else, he will have to search for another muse to fulfill his creative urges.

No injury can deter Sunny!
Looks like there's no stopping Bollywood's favourite 'Indian'. Not even an injury that the larger than life Punjabi sustained during the filming of upcoming film, 'Jaal'.
Apparently, Sunny and Amrish Puri were filming a scene which required the two to ride a bike. Hmmm...quite interesting that picture, no? Anyways, the bike skidded and both the actors ended up requiring stitches.
But will an injured hand stop our roaring, patriotic hero? I think not. Our sources tell us that Sunny is not at home recuperating but out there mouthing only good things to one and all about his prized 'Indian'.

The exclusive feature of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, directed by Karan Johar, is undoubtedly the most-awaited film of the year. And if the songs are an indicator of things to follow, the Johars have another hit on their hands. This writer was part of the distinguished gathering that was specially invited by Karan Johar and Sony Music for an exclusive screening of the film's songs. The music will be released on October 16.
THE SONGS:
The film has ten songs (that includes the sad versions of the title song, besides the 'Soul Of K3G') and it's indeed difficult to choose which one is one-up on the other. But the number that is sure to catch the fancy of cinegoers is 'Bole Chudiyan', picturised on the six stars of the film Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor.
'Suraj Hua Maddham', picturised on SRK and Kajol in Egypt, has brilliant visual appeal, while 'You Are My Sonia' (Hrithik, Kareena) has excellent choreography (Farah Khan). 'Shava Shava' (Amitabh, SRK and Rani Mukherji) is lavish in picturisation, although the tune is similar to 'Sona Sona' from MAJOR SAAB.
AN INSIGHT INTO THIS MULTI-STARRER:
Yashovardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) have raised their sons Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) showering them with love and affection. Yash has tried to pass on to his sons the values, the heritage and the rich traditions of his family, which he cherishes and holds in great regard.
On the other hand, Nandini has different dreams and aspirations for her two sons. But she shares a special bond with Rahul, the eldest son, who's an adopted child.
Rahul's adoption has always been kept a secret. But ever since Rahul himself found that out at the tender age of 8 years, it has been the reason for his unending devotion and gratitude for his parents, especially his father. His father's every word, every wish becomes an unwritten commandment for him. One that he would never break, but unfortunately he does.
Because Rahul falls in love!
Rahul falls in love with Anjali (Kajol), a bubbly girl from Delhi's Chandni Chowk, who dotes on her younger sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) and cares madly about her ailing father Bauji (Anupam Kher). A simple girl who Rahul marries and brings home. A girl that makes a proud stubborn man forget that he is a father and reminds a son that he is adopted.
Rahul decides to leave the mother who taught and encouraged him to fall in love and whose every waking moment henceforth will be spent waiting eagerly for her elder son to return home.
But Rohan makes a promise to re-unite the family.
PROFILES:
Amitabh Bachchan plays Yashovardhan Raichand, the patriarch of an affluent industrial family with fixed notions about preserving family traditions. He is adamant about the path he chooses for his children and cannot tolerate any deviations in that regard. His rigidity forms the crux of the conflict in the film and throws his close-knit family apart.
Jaya Bachchanplays Nandini Raichand, the strong but submissive wife of Yashovardhan, who dotes on her sons and wants them to follow their hearts. She is torn between her special bond with her son Rahul and her undying loyalty to her husband. At the risk of losing her son, she supports Yash unflinchingly in all his decisions. Till one fine day, the dam bursts.
Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul, the adopted son of the Raichands, who places the respect for his father above everything else at all times, except when he falls in love. He is hurt and disillusioned when his idol, his father, shuns him in favour of his rigidity. He moves away from the family in order to keep his word to his beloved.
Kajol is Anjali Sharma, a talkative middle class shop owner from Chandni Chowk, whose entry into the Raichand fold is the cause of the feud that shatters the Raichand family. She supports Rahul in trying times but always misses the parental warmth that would exist if she was accepted and blessed by her in-laws.
Hrithik Roshan plays Rohan, the modern and stylish younger scion of the Raichand family, who takes on the mission of bringing the splintered family together. He is ready to bear the brunt of his father's rage just so that he can reunite his family and bring back the smile on his mother's face.
Kareena Kapoor is Pooja a.k.a. Poo, an incurable fashion addict whose vanity is only sidelined by her sensitivity when she supports Rohan's mission in bringing the Raichand family together again.

Ghai in the Dumps; Gets Thumbs Down Even From Govinda
Spot News!
Who would have ever wondered that 'showman' Subhash Ghai would come to such a sorry pass? After going public, his company, Mukta Arts, has been sinking like the Titanic. The last two Mukta productions, 'Rahul' and 'Yaadein' have vanished without a trace. The share price of the company has been falling like ninepins, and to add to Ghai's woes comes news that no big star is keen to work in his films anymore. After receiving rejection letters from Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, both of them once in his list of favorites, Ghai has had to face the ignominy of even being rebuffed by Govinda.
Three of Ghai's films are presently on hold, including 'Badhai Ho Badhai'. He has signed directors like Abbas-Mustan and David Dhawan for his future projects but has not been able to get any actor to sign on the dotted line for these so far. Govinda, for instance, has refused to work for a film to be directed by David Dhawan. The 'showman' seems to be facing the biggest crisis of his career since the flop of 'Yaadein'. He has, however, put on a brave face and in a signal to the trade has signed Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai for his next project. But the distributors are keeping their distance from him.
All this comes in a year in which Ghai is celebrating his silver jubilee as a filmmaker. His first film as a director, 'Kaalicharan', was released in 1976 and made Shatrughan Sinha a star overnight and stamped Ghai as a filmmaker to watch out for. Then came films like 'Hero', 'Vidhataa', 'Ram Lakhan', 'Karma' and 'Pardes'. Trimurti' was the first film with which Ghai had to taste failure. As it was directed by Mukul Anand, however, not many people raised their eyebrows. But with the failure of 'Yaadein', of which Ghai was the creator in all respects, the faith of the trade in him has been shaken. The story, the screenplay, the direction, everything was by Subhash.
Things were not always like this, There was a time when every big star, including Govinda, wanted to work with Ghai. Govinda has gone on record as saying that he wants to work with big directors but they are not willing to pay his market price. And he is sticking to this line. After the debacle of 'Yaadein', Ghai approached him to do a film with David Dhawan. Govinda, who has turned more professional after bearing huge losses while trying his hands at distribution, asked Subhash to pay a little more than his current market price. Ghai, however, was not ready for this and the deal did not materialize.
Govinda's refusal has, however, led to the raising of many an eyebrow. Trade analysts say that the way actors are behaving with producers these days is not a happy augury. Every actor wants to be a businessman now and all actions are motivated by this vision. Govinda has given only one hit in the recent past ('Jodi No.1') and is no longer very hot property. Many recall the time when he used to knock on every producer's door in search of work.
The Ghai camp might be very unhappy with Govinda's behavior but his refusal is being interpreted in many ways. People close to Govinda say that from now on he is not going to work in each and every film that comes his way. He is going to follow the path shown by Shahrukh and Aamir, and be very selective in his choice of films. He has quit the distribution business and also decided to wind up his show, 'Jeeto Chhappar Phad Ke' on the Sony channel. In fact, he has finished shooting his quota of episodes for this game show.
This change in Govinda's attitude is also said to be based on the fact that some of his films are lying with producers, with no distributor willing to pick them up. 'Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya', directed by Rajat Rawail, is one such film that has not been able to see the light of the day although it was completed almost six months back. Distributors are also not very keen on Govinda's forthcoming films. Productions like 'Chalo Ishq Ladayen' are held up because of this factor only. To make things worse, his latest film, 'Kyon Kii Main Jhooth Nahin Boltaa' has not been able to stir the box office. The film failed to compete with its co-release, 'Ajnabee' in the opening weekend. While 'Ajnabee' opened to full houses, 'Kyonkii' could only manage 70 percent of the total capacity on the opening day. In fact, there has been a phenomenal drop in collections by Govinda's films in the last two years and maybe this was the reason that Ghai asked him to cut down on his fee. As Govinda was adamant, however, the deal fell through.
