Kamal Hassan detained at Toronto airport
Kamal Hassan was in for a surprise recently while traveling from Toronto to Los Angeles. At the airport, he was prevented from boarding his flight because his name sounded Islamic. The trouble started when the custom authorities questioned him about his stay in Toronto and why was he flying down to Los Angeles. Kamal was in Toronto to shoot for the Tamil film Panchathathiram and was flying down to Los Angeles to achieve a particular look for his next film to be directed by Priyadarshan. The authorities then questioned him as to who was footing his travel bills. The Toronto officials also found hard to believe that Kamal was going to get his make-up done in Los Angeles and later shoot in India. They questioned him why he was Las Vegas before flying to Toronto. No amount reasoning could pacify the officials who stamped 'Refused' on his ticket to LA. Hassan called up on his friends in American Embassy. Actor Aamir Khan too faced a similar trouble when he traveled to Los Angeles earlier.

Manisha makes her presence felt
For those who had dismissed Manisha Koirala as a 'has been' because she didn't have a single release last year and was going steady with another foreigner, need to eat their words as the actress has signed at least eight more films. She has launched her own production company and has zeroed in on several talented South Indian directors to make five films for various TV channels under her banner. Plus she's got plum roles in Escape From Taliban and a film based on the September 11 attack in the US. "So who says I was twiddling my thumbs needs to get his eye checked," Manisha was heard saying sarcastically.

Govinda's new found love
We all know about the Govinda - Rani liaison and the trouble it had brewed in his domestic life. Biwi No. 1 Sunita had nearly staged a walk out were he not to give up on Rani. In fact, Govinda even approached good friend Manisha Koirala to intervene and make his wife see reason. Thankfully things stand peaceful on the home front. Miya-biwi are raazi once again! They recently had wonderful time dining at Manisha's place. While Manya and Sunita spoke nineteen to the dozen in Nepali, Govinda relished upon the typical Nepalese food cooked by mama Koirala.

Shah Rukh: Bouncing back
After having taken an off from work quite sometime now, Shah Rukh Khan will get as busy as a bee in the remaining half year. His home production to be directed by choreographer Farah Khan and Sohail Khan, starring Amisha Patel and Sushmita Sen will hit the floors in October. The next film stars himself and Aishwarya Rai to be made by Aziz Mirza and should begin sometime in August. Plus there's a film with Aditya Chopra that will have him with Kajol and Rani. How can we forget Karan Johar's flick with Kareena? So the energetic Khan will be back facing the arc lights again… that too very soon!

South Africa's warm welcome for Aankhen
Aankhen stood to beat several Hollywood films like Hart's War starring Bruce Willis and I am Sam starring Sean Penn in South Africa with the film drawing excellent collections at the box-office in places like Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. The reason for Aankhen doing excellent business there is because it has been extensively shot in South Africa. Plus the presence of Amitabh Bachchan has taken the NRIs living there by storm. Great going must say!

Juhi: Going strong
Look's like Juhi Chawla is following the footsteps of Madhuri Dixit Nene and Kajol. Yes, the actress is still open to film offers which of course does not mean that she knocks on producer's door asking them for roles. In fact, roles are coming to her doors. She has already bagged quite a few films that'll exploit her talent to the fullest. There's Nagesh Kukunoor's Three Walls that revolves around three criminals and their life behind bars. There's also a film with Tanuja Chandra that requires Juhi to play an actress and how the character that she is portrays becomes an obsession with her. So all those who had written Juhi off, beware she is gonna be back with a vengeance.
