Esha's dream role
NA TUM JAANO NA HUM is a crucial release for everyone associated with it - first-time producers Pantaloon, director Arjun Sablok, Hrithik (after YAADEIN, A.M.A.L.L.) and of course, Esha Deol, whose first film - KOI MERE DIL SE POOCHHE - failed to strike a chord with cinegoers. "I enjoyed working in NA TUM JAANO NA HUM. The film will always be close to my heart," Esha tells me.
The youngster's dream role is the one enacted by her mom, Hema Malini, in LAL PATTHAR. But what about SEETA AUR GEETA, which is rated amongst Hema's finest works? Doesn't Esha intend enacting the diverse roles in one of her films? "Oh, I've enacted the roles of Seeta and Geeta more than hundred times since childhood. I used to play the characters, while my household staff would play villains," she laughs loudly.
Incidentally, Esha nurses a desire to work in a Tamil film some day. "I did receive an offer once, but I was too young for the role," she recalls.

Naghma turns producer
The grapevine is abuzz that Naghma is all set to bounce back in Bollywood after a hiatus. According to sources, she is all set to turn producer and her first film will be directed by Deepak Shivdasani (Deepak had launched her in BAAGHI). Naghma did not write off the development when we called to verify: "I won't deny that Deepak did approach me with a script to produce it. It has a woman-oriented theme and has shades of BAAGHI. But I've yet to arrive at a decision."
On the acting front, Naghma is currently involved with two films each in Tamil and Telugu language. But let's await her decision on her new role - that of a film producer.

Hrithik's acid test
Na Tum Jaano Na Hum stands to be Hrithik Roshan acid test at least that's what the media claims it to be. Already labeled a one film wonder and Kumar Gaurav of the nineties, Hrithik desperately needs a hit to regain foothold in the industry. But when the press questioned about the recent flops that he had dished out, Hrithik appeared unfazed as he said that he had worked with sincerity but the final but box-office outcome was not in his hands. He feels the script of Na Tum Jaano Na Hum is quite strong, so strong that when he read it he had tears in his eyes. Hrithik is also banking on the favorable response of his pairing with Esha.

Deepak Tijori turns director
After trying out lead and strong character roles, Deepak Tijori has turned to film production. Besides producing television software for various satellite networks, Deepak has gone a step ahead and is all set to launch his first feature-film. When contacted, Deepak confirmed the news, "It's true that I am planning to produce and direct a film. At the moment, we are working on the script." Will be interesting to see whom Deepak casts in his first venture!

Sanjay Leela maintaining low profile
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to maintain a low profile vis-a-vis his latest venture DEVDAS. And there's a reason to it. "So much has been written against DEVDAS right from its onset that I've decided to maintain a low profile this time," Sanjay tells me, continuing in the same vein, "Yes, I am nervous this time. The expectations are so high, I'm scared."
Meanwhile, the promos of the film have generated tremendous hype for the film and the music is being awaited with bated breath. "We're expecting to cross all sales, such is the craze," Vinay Sapru, Vice-President, Universal Music India, told me the other day.
This writer was invited by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to an exclusive preview of the songs of this SRK - Madhuri - Ash starrer and was also introduced to the voice of Ash in the movie - Shreya Ghoshal - while Kavita Krishnamurthy has rendered the Madhuri numbers. Must say, the songs are simply outstanding!

Saroj Khan banned
The Federation Of Western India Cine Employees has allegedly banned choreographer Saroj Khan on the grounds of cheating dancers and producers of money. Association of Motion Pictures and Television Producers director general Anil Nagrath said that he had received a notice from FWIC asking all associations to ban Saroj Khan. Dancers complained that Saroj Khan does not pay the rightful amount due to them even though she charges the producers for it. The trouble brewed this time on the sets of Devdas.
It is alleged that Khan took Rs 20 lakhs from the producer but gave only Rs 7 lakh to the association. It may be recalled that the dancers had filed a similar complaint against the same dance director while doing a dance sequence for Ab Ke Baras. All requests by Saroj fell before deaf years as the co-dancers refused to cooperate and even called a strike on that day. Saroj Khan was compelled to call upon Ganesh Acharya asking if she could use his dancers to shoot the song sequence. But the co-dancers warned them of disruption of shooting if they cooperated. When asked about the issue an angry Saroj Khan lamented to media, "What ban? I have been shooting day and night and don't know anything about this. There are no problems. The situation has been resolved!"

Hrithik-Salman: Muscled jodi
Director John Mathew Mathan who made his debut as a director with Sarfarosh has reportedly approach Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan for his next venture. He was keen to work with Aamir Khan again but Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai compelled Aamir to refuse his offer. Having waited for Aamir for nearly three years, John had no option but to move on. Sajid Nadiadwala has signed John for his next film and according to the buzz this is the film that Hrithik and Salman have been roped in for. Now this would be an exciting jodi to watch on screen.
