Rani: Looking hot
Those who have had a sneak-peek at Milan Luthria's Chori Chori are talking not only about the film but also Rani Mukherjee in particular. The babe from the land of rasgullas is looking absolutely dashing in the film. What's more, Rani's comic timing is so good in the film that it has the viewers spellbound. Looks like Ajay Devgan and Rani Mukherjee are surely going to be one hot pair that filmmakers would want to repeat over and over again. Now, now do we see Govinda's heart burning?

Fardeen: waiting for a hit
Fardeen Khan is going to have four more releases this year. Okay, Kitne Door Kitne Pass was a flop but there are other films that he is looking forward to. Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe has Fardeen with newcomer Richa Pallod which is a remake of a super hit Telegu film. Fardeen feels when you work in a remake, the effort should be to supercede the standard achieved by the original one. Interestingly Richa Pallod happens to be the third debutant who has been paired with Fardeen, Reema Sen and Amrita Arora being the other two. Besides KTKKHK, Fardeen's other releases will be Anupam Kher's Om Jai Jagadish, Boney Kapoor's Khushi and father Feroz Khan's Jaanasheen. Despite flops like Fardeen has managed to make his presence felt and that's quite commendable.

Shilpa Shetty: Adding substance
When you watch Shilpa Shetty shake her bon bon in her forthcoming release Badhaai Ho Badhaai's song Jogan, you don't have any doubts about her abilities as a dancer. But that is not what Shilpa is looking for. After struggling for nearly eight years, Shilpa has finally found her footing in the film industry. She has managed to hang to the parachute called Dhadkan and consequently she landed safely on plump projects. Shilpa Shetty is truly content with her career and aims for a higher level with the next lot of acting oriented films. "And Badhaai Ho Badhaai does exactly that for me. I am too superstitious talking about the film. I am playing a Punjabi girl which is something I have not done on screen, so people will enjoy it.

It's about love, sacrifice, happiness, giving and all these things entwined and weaved together. I loved doing situational comedy and we are not doing buffoonery to make people laugh. So it has been a great venture for me, an opportunity to work with such amazing people like Satishji and Anilji with whom it's my first film. On the sets we were like the three musketeers who are complete workaholics." Giving that wonderful smile, this sexy beauty is betting a lot on Badhaai Ho Badhaai.

Amisha denies rift with Hrithik
Speculation is rife that Hrithik Roshan and Amisha Patel have decided not to work in the future owing to differences between the two. But Asha Patel, Amisha's mom, and Amisha denied the rumour completely, adding that there's no rift between them. "All this is media created," they echo in unison, continuing in the same breath, "Hrithik, Suzanne and Amisha are the best of friends. In fact, Amisha has just shifted to Bandra with Ashmith (her brother) and Hrithik and Suzanne are the only industry people who've visited our new home."

Also denying the fact that she's got nothing against Kareena, Amisha states, "We've never spoken against her at all. Why should we be against anyone? We are here for work, not to rake up controversies."

On the professional front, Amisha's career seems to have plummeted suddenly after YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR, KRANTI, KYA YEHI PYAAR HAI and AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE. "Hits and flops are part of the game," Amisha's mom defends, continuing in the same vein, "But spacing out releases is not in our hands. If a couple of films starring a star are released with no gap whatsoever, that can't be helped. It's up to the producers to decide what's right for them."

Incidentally, Amisha has three more films lined up in the next two months - YEH HAI JALWA, HUMRAAZ and SUNO SASURJEE.

Amisha- Karisma war
The backstage workers of the recently held Ehsaas 2002 show in Mumbai were taken by surprise when they witnessed actress Karisma Kapoor and Amisha Patel having a verbal duel with each other. It all started when Salman Khan asked Karisma to join him on stage. It slipped out his mind completely that the one to accompany him was Amisha Patel who was as averse to the Kapoor sisters as a rat to a cat. But Salman insisted that Karisma give him company and reticent that Kareena is, she kept turning him down. The silent Amisha who witnessed all this remarked that it was pointless to cajole the Kapoor sisters as they were badly brought up girls. Karisma lost her temper on hearing this and questioned Amisha's family's creditability in the industry. When things took a serious turn, Salman intervened and asked the girls to sort out their differences peacefully. But peace is a distant word for the firebrands, especially Kareena who recently called Amisha the queen of flops, tsk, tsk!!

Abhishek's makeover
The promos of Om Jai Jagadish are out and guess who is standing out head over shoulders? Abhishek Bachchan! He is looking quite dashing with what we have a change in body language. It's all most like debutant director Anupam Kher has done a makeover for him. Or is it that he has finally woken up to dress sense and finished looks. With Anil and Fardeen also in the film with him, Abhishek's raw appeal comes across as a surprise. Hope it is not a flash in the pan and this debonair guy makes it big through this film.

Movie Review : Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage
Mohan Kumar's AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE, directed by Vikram Bhatt, is a keenly-awaited flick for three reasons -

One, this is Hrithik and Amisha's second film after KAHO NAA... PYAAR HAI.

Two, it has music by Rajesh Roshan - responsible for the melodious tunes in K.N.P.H.

Three, it's directed by Vikram Bhatt - the man behind GHULAM, KASOOR and RAAZ.

Obviously, the expectations from AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE are gargantuan. However, AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE lacks the punch associated with Bhatt's previous flicks.

The problem with the film is its script - it is as old as the hills. The subject of lovers facing opposition from the parents is not a new one. Several movies since time immemorial have dealt with that topic in some form or another, with mixed results.

A saga of the triumph of love and sacrifice, AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE tells the story of Sapna (Amisha Patel), who is caged in protective custody of her own father Dholakia (Kiran Kumar), an underworld kingpin, and steamy-headed brother Raman (Mukesh Tiwari), who have deployed armed escorts for her.

In effect, she is stifled in her movements until she encounters Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) during the nine days of Navratri and in these nine days, Sapna discovers life, which changes her entirely.

How Sapna and Rohit fall in love under adverse circumstances forms the nucleus of the story.

AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE is an apt case of an old wine in a new bottle. The story is ancient, but director Vikram Bhatt tries hard to make the film watchable by his slick and zippy treatment.

The film takes off pretty well. Hrithik's introduction (football match) and the scene with Amisha, when he saves her from the rival don's henchmen, are expertly executed.

But the pace drops alarmingly during the Navratri track. The story almost comes to a grinding halt and the time the hero and heroine actually take to say the three magical words - 'I Love You' - tests the patience of the viewer.

Like a roller coaster ride, the narration picks up again when Kiran Kumar announces Amisha's engagement with his friend's son. This incident occurs at the interval point and expectedly, one looks forward to a dramatic second half.

But the post-interval portions deviate to an altogether different track and let you down completely. Amisha's portions in the boy's hostel appear outlandish. In fact, one starts wondering as to what must've propelled Bhatt and his team of writers (Robin Bhatt, Sanjeev Duggal) to devote so much footage to such inconsequential stuff. Even the song ('We Wish You A Great Life') can easily be done away with.

The last half-an-hour is the best part of the flick. Although there's nothing new in the narrative, the stylish execution by Bhatt makes the goings-on palatable. Even Hrithik's look towards the last fifteen minutes holds tremendous appeal vis-a-vis from the masses point of view.

What could've turned out to be a mediocre fare is salvaged to an extent thanks to Vikram Bhatt's deft handling of the age-old formula. The execution of many a scene is stylish and a few dramatic scenes linger in your mind even after the show has ended, notable among them being the sequence when Kiran Kumar warns Hrithik to leave the city and forget all about his daughter.

Rajesh Roshan's music is no patch on his earlier scores. Yet, a couple of songs do stand out mainly due to their effervescent picturisation - the title track and 'Hawaon Ne Ye Kaha'. However, the choreography of the latter is simply brilliant.

Pravin Bhatt's cinematography is eye-catching. The stunts (Abbas Ali Moghul) are skilfully executed, especially towards the climax. Dialogues (Girish Dhamija) are okay. Special effects are tacky.

Hrithik Roshan gives it all to his performance and the sincerity shows. He uplifts the most ordinary sequence to a respectable level. Amisha Patel does well in a few scenes, but hams at times. Kiran Kumar is effective. Nishigandha, as Amisha's sister-in-law, excels. Mukesh Tiwari is theatrical.

On the whole, AAP MUJHE ACHCHE LAGNE LAGE is too mediocre a fare to enjoy a successful innings at the turnstiles. Also, the lack of hype and curiosity for the film will curtail its prospects.

Movie Review : Na Tum Jaano Na Hum
P.F.H. Entertainment Ltd.'s NA TUM JAANO NA HUM, directed by Arjun Sablok, tackles a theme that's too old-fashioned.

Saif Ali Khan is Akshay.

What he wants, he gets. Cool dude Akshay has decided that there are two kinds of girls - the girl you love and the girl you marry. Confident and suave, this magnetic charmer has girls falling all over him. And does he revel in it.

Hrithik Roshan is Rahul.

What he wants, he never tells. Sensitive and caring, he spreads happiness wherever he goes. But locks his most intense emotions and desires deep inside his heart.

Esha Deol is Esha.

What she wants, she knows. She is positive that the only thing that matters between two people is the meeting of the heart. And it does not matter if you don't meet each other at all.

In an era of cellphones, Internet and emails, the story of NA TUM JAANO NA HUM sounds ancient.

Ancient because, from start to end, the two principal characters correspond through letters, post offices and post boxes. The film is set in 2001/2002 - it talks of music videos, FM channels, fashion photography - yet, surprisingly, the lovers seem to have no clue of Internet, emails and chat rooms!

Ancient also because, till the very last scene, the woman doesn't know the name of the character she's fallen in love with. Forget what he looks like!

NA TUM JAANO NA HUM is similar to SIRF TUM (Sanjay Kapoor - Priya Gill) in that respect. But in NA TUM JAANO NA HUM, the romance stands on a shaky foundation. For, both haven't done anything for each other so as to feel so deeply in love. Which is why your heart doesn't go out for either of them.

NA TUM JAANO NA HUM has its share of poignant moments. Actually, director Arjun Sablok has handled the plot with utmost sensitivity and a couple of sequences bear testimony to the fact.

The interval point, for instance, when Esha learns of Hrithik's true intentions, is well shot. Ditto for the finale - in Canada - when Hrithik and Saif come face to face and the scene thereafter, when Hrithik flies to India to meet Esha, stand out.

Director Arjun Sablok has ensured that the film has a consistent look throughout, although a few sequences give away the fact that the film has taken a while to complete. The sets (Omung Kumar Bhandula), locales (Canada) and the overall ambience are classy. Besides, a couple of emotional sequences are sure to strike a chord.

Unfortunately, the film suffers in the most vital department - script - penned by Arjun Sablok himself. The writing leaves a lot to be desired and the screenplay does precious little to elevate the proceedings.

For instance, the emotional moments, from start to end, are between Esha and her grand-father (Alok Nath). And although the film starts with the 'Ye Betiyaan To Babul Ki Raniyaan Hain' track, Esha has no scenes with her father, mother (Moushumi Chatterjee) or even aunt (Rati Agnihotri). In fact, after a point, she doesn't share her emotions with anyone. Actually, the parents and relatives don't contribute to the story at all.

Moreover, a couple of sequences seem totally irrelevant. For instance, Achla Sachdev's character has not been explained properly. The music video bit - involving Esha and Hrithik - is amateurish. Even the sole action sequence – when Hrithik exchanges blows with eve teasers - seems forced in the goings-on. There was just no need for it!

Moreover, the film moves at a snail's pace and the essence of the love story gets diluted in the process. Another factor that goes against the film is its music (Rajesh Roshan), which is tuneful, but lacks a hit number so important in a love story. Nevertheless, two numbers could be singled out since the placement of songs is in context with the story - 'Tune Dil Se Kyoon Mujhko Pukara' and 'Jaa Sanam Mujhko Hain Pyaar Pe Aitbaar'. But 'Tum Se Mujhe' should be deleted instantly in order to speed up the goings-on.

Dialogues (Pratibha Acharya) are well worded. Cinematography (Maonj Soni) is wonderful. The background score (Raju Singh) is effective.

Hrithik Roshan does elevate a few sequences with his performance. He excels towards the latter part of the film. Saif Ali Khan is getting typecast in casanova roles. Moreover, he deserved a better introduction in this love triangle. But it is Esha Deol who surprises you with a mature performance. Although her looks are inconsistent, the youngster takes on the role with utmost sincerity and comes out with a natural performance. She has been better presented when compared to her debut film.

Moushumi Chatterjee and Rati Agnihotri are terribly wasted. Alok Nath is okay. Smita Jaykar, Anang Desai and Ashima Bhalla are adequate. Any junior artiste could've done Preeti Jhangiani's role. She disappears as you blink an eyelid.

On the whole, NA TUM JAANO NA HUM has some moments for the classes, but not much for the masses. At the ticket window, the clash of two biggies (NA TUM JAANO NA HUM and AB KE BARAS) in the same week will eat into each other's pie.
