Aishwarya’s historic performances
Aishwarya Rai is very happy about being a part of two period films viz; 23rd March 1931 Shaheed and Devdas. While shooting for Sunny Deol's film at Mumbai's Kamalistan Studios, the actress said that she was lucky to get to play a role of a woman who never gets to meet the man she loves. "It's a film on a martyr who laid down his life for the country. I'm proud to be a part of the project," she said. Ask her if she was also offered Rajkumar Santoshi's film, Aishwarya clarified that she was only approached for Sunny's film and agreed to do it immediately.

Watch this boy !
Bollywood is forever looking for fresh-n-new faces which can spell magic to the audiences. Faces which attract attention of the viewers, impress them and turn them into fans. One such new face is Nakul Kapur. His debut film hasn't done roaring business as such, but the way he is being lapped up by the audiences is quite impressive. Nakul, who is good in looks, physique, dances, fights, emotional as well as action sequences in the film, is the sort of an actor every director would like to have. At present, he's being affectionately mobbed by the viewers whenever he visits a theatre screening his film, but the time might not be far when makers lap him up too. Mark this writer's words and Watch this boy!

Salman versus Sohail
Salman Khan is going to clash with younger brother Sohail Khan on July 5. No, the issue's not personal, but professional. Salman's YEH HAI JALWA and Sohail's debut film as an actor, MAINE DIL TUJHKO DIYA, are scheduled to release on July 5. As of now, the producers of both the films are firm on the date, but after reading this item one of them might prepone/postpone their release. Or, for all you know, overprotective that he is, Salman may insist on postponing his film by one week, so that Sohail's film can enjoy an open week. Let's wait!

Ajay's No-No to film production
After the non-success of RAJU CHACHA, Ajay Devgan has decided to concentrate on his acting assignments. "My focus is on acting these days," Ajay states, adding in the same breath, "I've no plans of producing a film at this phase of my career. In any case, where is the time to start a film and concentrate on it?"

Talk about the string of releases he's having (COMPANY, HUM KISISE KUM NAHIN, CHORI CHORI, THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH) and he says that fixing the release dates is not in his hands. "My job is to act. The job of spacing out film releases vests with the producers of the film," he answers. Point noted!

Urmila in Ramu's Bhoot
Not the one to rest on his laurels, Ramgopal Varma has already planned out his next venture that is going to star none other than his hot favourite Urmila Matondkar. We all how madam Matondkar was upset with Ramu for not casting her in Company. And how she nearly died a thousand deaths when she saw the film at special preview and stubbornly told her mentor to shoot a song with her especially for the film. Well, she is more than happy to play the lead in Ramu's Bhoot which is touted to be a chilling thriller. After Kaun, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya and the title track of Company, Ramu could not have hardly imagined any other heroine for a horror flick, what say?

Mira Nair's goes 9/11
Celebrated director Mira Nair who won awards and rave reviews for her spectacular version of an Indian wedding with Monsoon Wedding has launched her next film. She has roped in Tanvi Azmi to play a Muslim mother staying the US. The film focuses on the September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre and how the incident changes people's attitude towards the Muslim community. The film is expected to release this year.

Kajol has competition from home
After Kajol, its now the turn of younger sis Tanisha to make her debut in films. The youngster has been signed by ad film director Ajit Pal, (he's the guy who made the Ponds ad) for Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan opposite Karan Nath. The film is scheduled to go on the floor in July. The director hopes to wrap up the film by December. It will be the Mukherjee babe's first release. Well, watch out Kajol, Rani, here's some more competition from the home front.

Na Tum Jaano Na Hum: No'sense & sensibility!
Cast:Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Esha Deol, Moushmi Chatterjee, Rati Agnihotri, Alok Nath & others. Director: Arjun Sablok Rating: *

Well, its bad news for Hrithik fans again. Their hero again fails to pull it off. Not that there is much that the poor guy can do. I mean, if you have films like Na Tum Jaano Na Hum on your platter, what can you do? Just grin and bear it perhaps. But to come back to the film, its subject is rather quaint, coming as it does in today's world of Internet, emails, webcams, chat rooms etc. The premise of the entire film is based on writing letters. Yes, we are talking of the Indian Postal Service.!

Our protagonists Rahul (Hrithik Roshan) and Esha (Esha Deol) correspond only through letters. The original penpals, the duo don't even know each other's name as they set out on a journey of discovering each other through the written word. Their only identity for each other is Post Box No 235 and Post Box No 143. In fact, Esha only discovers the name of her beloved somewhere in the last scene.! Into this world of fairyale romance enters the playboy Akshay (Saif Ali Khan). Rahul's best friend, he complicates matters by also deciding to fall in love with Esha and deciding to marry her. Rahul, being the soft, romantic, goody character, never lets on about his feelings to his best friend. Lots of complications later, the triangle is resolved and the two lovers unite.! And believe you me, it's not a minute too soon.!

This asinine love story, which seems to have been majorly inspired by You've Got Mail, and Sanjay Kapoor's Sirf Tum, just fails to ring true. Part of the reason, of course, is why on earth would people want to usae the snail mail to correspond with each other. And even if we ignore that, why would they want to remian annonymous? The script never seems to bear it out clearly. In fact, the film is greatly hampered by a poor script which translates into a weak screenplay and the result is a very mediocre film. Even the music by Rajesh Roshan has hardly any gems worth hearing, except perhaps for the number 'Tune Dil Se Mujhe Hai Pukara.'

As for Hrithik Roshan. What does one say about this phenomenal actor, whose growth as an actor has been stymied by a rank bad selection of films. You have to hand it to Hrithik. The guy gives it his all. He tries hard. Too hard at times. And that shows. It shows only because the content somehow never demands that much effort from him. While he is effective playing the goody hero, his scenes with Esha fail to ignite the screen. There is no chemistry between the two. Esha Deol is definitely better than in her first film. But the young actress still has a long way to go.

As for the dashing debonair, Saif Ali Khan, well, he seems to be playing Sid from Dil Chahta Hai all over again, with just a few different shades. He is tending to get a bit repetative. However, inspite of that, he is one of the better things about the film. Senior actors like Moushumi Chatterjee and Rati Agnihotri are entirely wasted in inconsequential roles.

Director Arjun Sablok is totally handicapped by an inspid script. No matter how hard his actors try, they can hardly compensate for the lack of sense and sensibility in the film.
