New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) Trashing Pakistan's assertion that state actors were not involved in terror acts against India, Home Minister P Chidambaram today said LeT and every other militant outfit of that country is supported by ISI and they have set up modules and sleeper cells in this country.
"If it is the state policy to sponsor terrorism, if the state policy is to export terrorism to India, how will we deal with that state?," he said at the India Today conclave here.
The Home Minister said, "it is no secret that every militant organisation that is based in Pakistan, is supported by ISI. Lashkar, Hizbul Mujahideen, JuD, Al Badr - everyone of them is supported by ISI".
Making it clear that war is not an option, the Minister said, "then we must talk, when we can, when we think there can be progress".
Madurai, Mar 12 (PTI) Madurai Bench of the Madras High
Court today admitted a petition seeking action against SUN TV
network for "repeatedly broadcasting obscene scenes" allegedly
involving self-styled godman Nithyanandha Swami and
a Tamil film actress.
A division bench comprising Justices F M Ibrahim
Kalifullah and K B K Vasuki recorded an undertaking by the SUN
TV Network that they would not continue telecast of the scenes
till further orders and posted the petition to April 9.
The PIL petitioner advocate S Durairaj sought action
against the SUN Network under the Provisions of the Indecent
Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986.
Durairaj submitted he was shocked and surprised by the
telecast of the "obscene scenes" from March 2-4, which were
also aired in the network's other regional language channels.
Bareilly/Lucknow, Mar 12 (PTI) Defying curfew, irate
mobs today torched vehicles and road kiosks and clashed with
police, leaving a Superintendent of Police and five other
personnel injured, in Bareilly which has been hit by communal
violence since March 2.
Additional Director General of Police, law and order,
Brij Lal, said in Lucknow that unruly elements indulged in
heavy brickbatting and arson in Sanjay Nagar and Subhash nagar
localities, forcing the police to use tear gas shells and fire
rubber bullets, even as curfew continued in four police
station areas.
About half a dozen policemen including SP-City Rakesh
Jolly were injured in the brickbatting, the ADG said
adding three people received injuries from rubber bullets.
The mob set ablaze at least four vehicles and road
side kiosks.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam
Singh Yadav today raked up his old demand of political parties
giving 20 per cent of election tickets to women and said
registration of outfits, which fail to do so, should be
cancelled.
"We are in favour of (women) reservation but we don't
want more than 20 per cent (than 33 per cent as prescribed in
the Bill). In that 20 per cent also, parties should be given
the right to decide on the seats to be given to women," he
told CNN-IBN in an interview.
The Women's Reservation Bill envisages 33 per cent
reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
Denying that he has ever demanded a quota-within-quota,
the SP chief said, "this is a false propaganda.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) Former Pakistan captain Wasim
Akram today ridiculed the decision of imposing indefinite bans
on Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan, who he feels were treated
unfairly by the Cricket Board.
The PCB, on recommendation of an enquiry committee, took
disciplinary action against seven players who were part of the
disastrous Australia tour.
"I agree Yousuf was the skipper, but if it is a question
of indiscipline, the entire team management is at fault. And
that means, the coach and manager are equally responsible. Why
haven't they been punished? Did the coach and the manager go
on a holiday?" Akram said.
"You can't stop a player's livelihood on charges of
indiscipline. It is a ridiculous thing to do. Stiff fines
would have been in order and I am sure players will challenge
their bans," Akram told ESPNStarsports.com.

New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) India's disastrous hockey World
Cup campaign ended with a 2-4 defeat against Argentina as the
hosts finished a lowly eighth in the mega-event here on
Friday.
Argentina, meanwhile, registered their second seventh
place finish in the tournament since 1994 when they defeated
Korea on penalty strokes.
The Argentines started their campaign here with three
straight defeats but bounced back strongly with three
consecutive wins, including Friday's victory.
The eighth place finish can be seen as a marked
improvement for the Indians who were 11th in the last edition
of the tournament in Monchengladbach, Germany.
India could dig out only one victory against Pakistan in
their first encounter and lost four and drew one out of the
six matches they played in the tournament.
Incidentally, it was against the same opponents that
India lost 2-3 in the ninth-12th classification match in
Monchengladbach.
Mumbai, Mar 12 (PTI) The third edition of the Indian

and pop stars like Lionel Richie.

Sydney, Mar 12 (AFP) Former skipper Steve Waugh has warned that Australia are not match-hardened heading into this year's home Ashes series because of a lack of competition from rival teams, reports said today.
Waugh said Ricky Ponting's team would be competitive when the first Test starts in November but stopped short of predicting a result similar to the 5-0 whitewash against England here in 2006-07.
"The team has played well over the past 12 months, but the big issue is the quality of that opposition," Waugh told The Australian newspaper.
"Pakistan and West Indies, you would hardly call them good Test teams.
"We haven't played as much tough cricket as we need.
There is a lot of experience and depth, we will be very competitive, it will be a close competition.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) The Left agitation in the capital against price rise had its echo in Parliament today with members of four Left parties walking out of both Houses protesting the government's "lack of response" to their demand for a white paper on the issue.
In Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party also joined the walkout while parties like BJP, RJD, BSP and BJD supported the Left.
Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour, Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M) said lakhs of people have come to the national capital to protest "massive price rise" and urged the government to accept his five demands to address the issue.
He said the government should release the surplus stock of 275 lakh tonnes of foodgrains kept in godowns, which was more than 200 lakh tonnes required for the buffer stock.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) The Centre today promised to help
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in renovation and modernisation of
thermal power plants whose plant load factor (PLF) was low.
Minister of State for Power Bharatsinh Solanki told the
Lok Sabha that the Centre desired that thermal power projects
performed well, but it could modernise only those plants
acquired by the National Thermal Power Corporation.
But if the plants were under joint venture between state
government and private parties, then Centre's intervention
would not be possible due to finance and management issues, he
said during Question Hour.
On power generation troubles in Bihar, Solanki said the
Centre was providing power to the state under both allocated
and unallocated quota.
He said the PLF of many old thermal power plants had
improved after their renovation in the last four years.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) The Government today said
subsidised fertiliser was being smuggled out to countries like
Nepal and asked state governments to take stringent action.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in Rajya
Sabha, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Srikant
Kumar Jena said smuggling was taking place from different
parts of the country.
The Centre, he said, has written to chief ministers to
take stringent action against urea dealers who may be involved
in smuggling.
States like Uttar Pradesh need to take steps to prevent
smuggling, he said.
Explaining compulsions behind the recent decision to hike
urea prices, Jena said the cost had not changed in the past
eight years compared to two price revisions during NDA rule.
NDA government raised urea prices by 20 per cent when
global rates were USD 110 per ton.
New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) Government today assured the Lok
Sabha that all concerns related to genetically modified crops
were covered under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The assurance was given by Minister of State for Health
and Family Welfare Dinesh Trivedi in the Lok Sabha.
He said during Question Hour that the Food Safety and
Standards Act, 2006 covers such products.
"Parliament has passed the Food Safety and Standards Act
(FSSA), 2006, integrating the multiplicity of provisions under
various food related laws and inter alia regulating the food
safety standards and uniform licensing in the country," he
said, adding even life imprisonment could be given to
culprits.
Trivedi also said the government had constituted the Food
Safety and Standards Authority of India in September, 2008 to
carry out the purposes of Act.
