Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) A Shiv Sena delegation led by party Executive President Uddhav Thackeray has asked Governor K Sankaranarayanan to set up a separate statutory development board for Konkan and north Maharashtra regions.

The delegation, which met the Governor at Raj Bhawan here yesterday also requested him to extend the term of three Statutory Development Boards (SDBs) for Vidarbha, Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra, Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe told PTI.

"The tenure of these boards, established in 1994 for ensuring regional balance in development, ends on March 31 and the delegation explained to the Governor that the tenure should be extended to ensure development of these backward regions," Gorhe said.

Thackeray requested the Governor that he should begin the address to the Legislature on March 18 in Marathi.

The Governor told the delegation that he knows Marathi and Hindi and would be glad to start his speech in Marathi, a Sena leader said.

The incident was reported from Bholanath near Shahdara Metro station in the jurisdiction of Farsh Bazar police station, they said.

The personnel of Central District's Special Staff had gone to the area in connection with investigations in a case when the incident took place.

Four persons were killed and one was injured when a car in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck near Lulhara village in Bharatpur district, police said.

The mishap occurred when the victims were returning home after offering prayers at a temple at Karauli district, they said.

In another road accident, two truck drivers were killed when their vehicles collided head-on near Paldi Jod area in Sumerpur town of Pali district, the police said.

Police recover huge cache arms in Manipur

Imphal, March 13 (PTI) A huge cache of arms was seized from a supporter of the banned Revolutionary Peoples Front, the political wing of Peoples Liberation Army, by Manipur police commandos from Thoubal district, senior department officials said here today.

Acting on a tip-off on the movement of ultras, the commandos had launched a massive manhunt yesterday at Ukhongsang area in the district and apprehended Thokchom Biren Singh (43), SSP Clay Khongsai said.

One AK 56 rilfe, three magazines and 79 AK live ammunitions were seized from him, he said.

According to Khongsai, Singh led the police to a location where the arms were stored and they recovered four 9mm pistols, 20 grenades, 271 live ammunitions of M16 rifle, 232 live ammunitions of AK rifles, 100 live ammunitions of 9mm pistol and 4 live rounds of other weapons.

Oz break title jinx, beat Germany 2-1 to win WC

Not only the defending champions tightened up their loose ends in defence but also displayed a better co-ordination between the mid-field and forwardline in the second half.

Germany's hardwork finally yielded result in the 47th minute when Moritz Furste scored the equaliser with a well executed variation from their second short corner of the match.

Ten minutes later Germany got a chance to take the lead when they earned their third penalty corner after video umpire was brought into action, but Furste's flick this time was deflected off target by the Aussie defence.

To the disappointment of the cheering capacity crowd, it was not to be Germany's day as Doerner finally came to the party in the 59th minute, beautifully converting Australia's third short corner with a powerful drag-flick past Jessulat.

Woods responders concerned about domestic violence

Orlando, Mar 13 (AP) The ambulance crew that responded after Tiger Woods crashed his SUV would not allow his wife to ride with him to the hospital because they suspected domestic violence, documents released by the Florida Highway Patrol show.

But a police officer yesterday who responded said he didn't know where the crew got that information because he never heard it from anyone at the scene.

The reports also showed Woods' wife, Elin, turned over two bottles of pain pills to troopers after the November 27 crash outside the couple's suburban Orlando home.

Woods crashed his sport utility vehicle into a fire hydrant at 2:30 a.m., and officers found him lying in the street. The couple told investigators Elin Woods smashed the back window of the SUV with a golf club so she could unlock a door and pull him out.

    Woods, the world's No.

Ego problems responsible for delay in HI polls: FIH

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) The International Hockey Federation today said that ego clash and political differences within the state bodies were behind the delay in the Hockey India elections and the poll process has to be completed by May 31 to avoid suspension from the world association.

FIH president Leandro Negre said India was the only nation in world hockey which does not have an elected body comprising men's and women's wing under one roof.

"Earlier, we were not consistent with our deadlines because there were different issues, including High Court stay order, but now we are in a much better position. In the last two weeks during the World Cup we approached the states to solve the problems and come out with a compromise formula.

Some of them have been fixed and some promised us it will be done," Negre told reporters.

    Philem Dipak Singh

The Dutch, who were trailing 1-3 at the breather made a remarkable comeback by pumping in three goals in the second session to win their second bronze medal in the World Cup history.

The three-time champions had already won two silver earlier and with today's bronze was their seventh World Cup medal. This is also their first podium finish after their third place in 2002 when they beat South Korea in the bronze medal match.

Vedanta violating green norms in Orissa: Govt

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) Multi-billion dollar mining giant Vedanata Resources has violated environment regulations at its Rs 50,000-crore project in Orissa giving a go-by to tribal rights, the government has said.

"I can say that they have violated Forest Rights Act, without taking consideration of the tribal rights," Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said last night, adding the violation was both on the tribal front and also of the forest regulations.

Commenting on a ministerial expert committee that had gone into various mining projects in Orissa, he said Niyamgiri mining activities of Anil Agarwal led Vedanta had been found in violation of different regulations.

At the same time, he hit at campaigns launched by human right groups like Amnesty against the project as also its counter by the company through full page advertisements in national and local dailies.

Freight rates fall on good availability

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) Freight charges for the ten metric tonne pay load section for select destinations turned weak by up to Rs 1,000 in the local truck transport market today following large availability amid less cargo movement.

Transporters said easy availability of trucks against cargo movements pulled down some centres' freight rates.

Delhi to Pondicherry and Bangalore freight rates dipped by Rs 1,000 each to Rs 39,000 and Rs 40,500.

Chennai, Kolkata and Mysore freights also slipped by Rs 1,000 each to Rs 37,000, Rs 23,000 and Rs 42,500.

Rates to Mumbai and Patna also moved down by Rs 1,000 each to Rs 18,000 and Rs 17,000, respectively.

Edible, non-edible oils close flat in thin trade

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) Steady conditions prevailed at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today with most edible and non-edible varieties closing around previous levels.

Arrivals and offtake remained at a low ebb and volume of business poor.

Traders said negligible demand from vanaspati units and other consuming industries kept edible and non-edible oil prices unchanged.

Following are today's quotations per quintal

Inflation not linked to commodity futures: NCDEX

Kolkata, Mar 13 (PTI) There was no link between commodity futures and the double-digit food inflation, National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) Chief Business Officer Vijay Kumar said today.

"It was pointed out that inflation at present is much higher in products that are not traded on futures exchanges such as tur, urad, moong, fruits and milk," Kumar said at a seminar.

"I doubt that a ban on futures trading would help curb inflation. It is observed that even a ban could not contain prices. The ban on futures trading in sugar in 2009 did not bring down prices," he said at the seminar jointly organised by the NCDEX and the Forward Market Commission.

Futures trading enables large number of end users such as processors, wholesalers and corporates to hedge their price risk.
