Re: [nukkad] Re: What a death

Every day is Earth Day

Dear Anna,

Jadav Rana was the king of Saurashtra when the fleeing Persians landed here
in India. It is said that he summoned the leader of the refugees, and made
the point that there was no place in his kingdom for any refugees by
offering the leader a saucer full to the brim with Milk.
Understanding the hint, the leader is said to have asked for some sugar. He
added a spoonful of it to the milk, and lo! it mingled in perfectly. He
re-offered the milk to Jadav Rana, who drank of its new-found sweetness, and
understood this to mean, correctly, that as the sugar got mingled nicely in
the milk, without spilling the latter, AND also sweetened the milk, so also
the refugees would mingle with the local populace and enrich their life for
ever.
These Zoroastrians became the "Parsis". In the centuries to come, they
indeed have enriched Indian culture, economy, business, education,
philanthropy, and so much else, that they proved the early pioneer right.
That should explain Parsi too.
Bawaji is a term of endearment for an old Parsi gentleman.
Thus Parsi bawaji.
Hope that helps.

With Best Wishes,
Dr. Taher Kagalwala
