Re: [nukkad] Anne Frank's Diary

Leaving aside the incongruity (and the pointlessness) of the smiley,
I doubt that such a diary would be anywhere close to Anne Frank's
in terms of drama. The US-Iraq war itself lasted just about 3 weeks
and for a majority of the regular Iraqis it involved numerous thuds
from bombs and lots of smoke. There was mental stress to be sure
but not on the same level as the constant psychological pressure that
Anne Frank & her family endured.

A diary from someone in the Iraqi resistance movement (if such a
thing existed) or from an oppressed community (Shiite or Kurd) is
probably the closest we can get to that kind of living under
ever-present danger.

BTW, here is a diary from a young man, supposedly from Baghdad.
http://dearraed.blogspot.com/

It makes for some very compelling reading.

Many people have tried to ascertain if he is actually in Baghdad
(see http://paulboutin.weblogger.com/2003/03/20) but there is no
absolute proof either way. There has been a lot of speculation about
why he stopped writing after March 24th but again nothing convincing.

He could very well become the 'Iraqi Anne Frank' when/if the
worldwide media get a hold of him.
