RE: [nukkad] More on trains

I don't think this metro system will work in Bombay. The first thing
will be objection to this project by various groups who have nothing
better to do. Protest and dharnas will take place by, for and anti
groups. Government has to cater to everybody and we are not a country
with rules so the target will never be achieved. But what will happen is
that a few small time builders will get some government contract and
start digging the city, make their money and leave all the potholes as
the project would have got abolished.
The reality is that public has to own a city, state, country. Look at
Calcutta. Their entire city is a junkyard but walk into their metros and
it can be compared to Singapore. The reason is simple. All the Bengalis
are proud of it and will do anything to keep it clean. They will not
throw a piece of paper in the metro station but will junk it on the
streets outside.

It takes alot out of the community to get that feeling out. It is not
always that the government has to take actions. The citizens also have
their role to play. How many of us do that ? We will keep our homes
clean but the moment it reaches the door step we don't care. With that
attitude who is going to own anything for a city.

I am in no way siding the govt. but they are easy to pick on as they are
the "bad & corrupt" side. But Bombay in one city where I have seen some
action take place. But people are not ready to accept the change. They
will live in that dumpster even if you give them an apartment. They will
put that on rent and go back to live on the footpath.

Well, if this takes off and succeed I would be really proud of the city
but if not I would not like to drive the pot hole roads in a hope of
getting nothing out of all the crores that will be spent and earned by
the wrong people.
