While agreeing with the spirit of Arjun Sens comment that serious social
issues need to be tackled by the government for the Dalit community I
would strongly disagree that Fridays "events" have its reasons in
primarily social causes - the way the opposition (read RPI, Congress)
reacted smacks of political opportunism .. there are strong indications
that the entire event has been "stage-managed" .. After all, who has the
most to "gain" from Fridays events (if such a callous word can at all be
used in this context) .. clearly whoever vandalised Dr Ambedkars bust
could have had only one objective in mind - a riot - can the ruling party
have wished any such thing ??

Keeping politics aside, lets look at the police. Whatever their faults
clearly they have a thankless job. How can any of us sitting in our ivory
towers, pass judgement so casually that the police should not have fired -
have any of the people commenting faced an angry mob before ?? A mob has
no mind that you can reason with - it is a collective mind that is only as
good as its worst component. So please before damning the police, let us
look at the context ...one of factors the police say "in support" of their
action is that teh mob was about to put a gas tanker alight. An explosion
would have killed many more innocent passerbys.. Let us not consider the
police guilty until proved innocent

What is the most saddening part is that none of us comment (or notice) on
the shameful , truly "backward" and immature mentality among us Indians,
that vents anger caused by one party on other completely innocent and
unconnected parties ... no amount of frustration justifies the stoning of
unaware and unconnected vehicles/occupants on the highway and setting fire
to government buses

To my mind this is the biggest scam of all - the fact that so many lives
are lost due to mass human stupidity.. These are the scams that need to
and can be stopped

All our other famous scams from Harshad Mehta to CRB are examples of
singular human ingenuity (albeit misdirected) at evading laws.. As long as
the human mind continues to innovate, social/political laws can limit
these scams , not eliminate them

It is the scam of our illiteracy, our immaturity and the shameless
opportunism of our politicians that needs to be tackled . 
BUt who the hell is going to do it ??
