Some common misperceptions about India stand corrected:

Relations between India and the United States date from India's
independence in 1947.(Myth)
George Washington sent a consul to Calcutta in November 1792.(Reality)


Millions are starving in India.(Myth)
India's food production meets the demand of its 940 million people and
leaves a surplus for export. India is the world's largest producer of
milk, 
and the second largest producer of rice.(Reality)

India is overpopulated.(Myth)
The population density of Holland is two and half times that of
India.(Reality)

Curry powder is widely used in the kitchens of Indian homes.(Myth)  
Curry powder, as such, does not exist in India.(Reality)

India is a Hindu country.(Myth)
India is constitutionally a secular country. While approximately 80
percent
of Indians are Hindus, India has people from every religion,  including
the
second largest population of Muslims in the world.(Reality)

Galileo was the first to prove the Earth revolved around the sun in the
early 1600s.(Myth)
The Indian astronomer Aryabhatta proved the Earth was round and
revolved
around the sun a thousand years earlier.(Reality)
