[nukkad] Bomb blast in B'bay. No casualties.

This just in:

A bomb went off inside the Juma Masjid premises on Janjikar street, near
Crawford Market, at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

There were no injuries.

According to the police, the blast took place in one of the masjid's
toilets where bombs were being assembled. The masjid trustees told the
police, no one connected with the mosque was involved in bomb manufacture. 
They added that the incident had come as a surprise to them.  They specified 
that the toilet was open only from 7.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m.  
onwards. 


A report from the Itar-Tass (Russian) agency said:

Bombay's high-ranking police officials think that suspected culprits had 
intended to bomb the Moslem shrine to spark off clashes between the Hindus 
and Moslems in their bid to jeopardize large-scale operation underway to 
wipe off most notorious criminal gangs in Bombay.
