RE: [nukkad] Sexual Abuse!!!!!! We gotta sto it......

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: This list archived on the web at:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ms. Amrita and Nukkadites,

1) Congrats to you, ma'am for introducing a relevant topic.
2) Several points of yours were noteworthy. It goes without saying that I
will forward this to several of my friends, with copyrights marked to your
name, not your E-Mail address.
3) A minor point. You have given a Christian example of abuse and then
wrapped up the topic with invocation to Jesus. If the implication is that ,
and it could be wrongly interpreted that sexual abuse is only prevalent
among so and so community, then I as a Hindu, promptly denounce it. In
whatever I have read and e-chatted, Sexual abuse (SA) is common among all
communities. But I am sure that you did not have reference to so and so
community. Just an observation.
4) Some solutions to lessen SA:

a) Dont leave young females alone with unmarried, or divorced or 'lusty'
males. Someone may ask me what you mean by lusty males. From an operative
viewpoint, any male who excessively touches or fondles members of the
Opposite sex classify. This may sound silly, but a trained eye can
distinguish between caring hands and fondling hands.

b) Introduce compulsory sex education in Std VI/VII. Better to know it from
the horse's mouth earlier.

c) The relation between the mother and her girl child should be more
educative as much as it is filled with motherhood and love, etc. It is
better to warn the child in a indirect way, that you should not get physical
with males, etc.

d) Families where the mother goes out to work, but the father stays at home,
are a big question mark. The mothers in such cases should be on full alert,
look out for tell-tale signs, etc.

e) Girl children in India are brought up in a very docile way. The reason is
probably that they have to go after marriage to someone's house, etc, etc.
Point is they should learn to complain if 'something' is happening to them.
many a times, the SA victim thinks, even if I tell my Mom, she is not really
going to do anything, because she is so timid. Timidity is not genetic. It
should be suppressed.

f) A very sensitive point. Ladies don't get me wrong please. I read in a
magazine that one of the reasons why men indulge in this abominable practice
is that they are not happy with the "performance" of their wives, and they
are too ashamed to seek recourse through the channel of going to a
prostitute, etc. Though nothing can justify such incest, both ladies and
gents, need to check, especially after 7-8 years of marriage, whether they
are OK "that way" or not. Maybe somewhere there is a problem.

g) Another sensitive point. If the wife or the husband is on long term
transfer, like Merchant Navy or Bank job, etc, then the better thing to do
is to get some old members like Granny, Grandpa, etc. Maybe ther is some
mischief lurking around somewhere. Who knows?

h) NGo sponsored helplines which offer aid through phone etc, should be back
to back linked to plainclothes policemen. Only 10% of the wives or daughters
will actually falsely say that their father is SAing them. Bad luck to them.
90% will be speaking the truth. The moment there is a complaint against any
male, he should be immediately sentenced to a non-bailable arrest of 3 years
in jail, such that his wife/daughter is immediately given a job in Small
Scale Industry. This is in case of married men with one child or more. In
case of unmarried men or married men, yet to have an issue, he should be
given immediate vasectomy with 1 year non-bailable jail arrest. A list of
such men should be published in all Cable channels and English/Vernacular
newspapers.

Nukkadites, please add to this list. Thank you, Amrita, and please remember,
don't leave anthing to God. Anything in this earth has to be done through
the instrumentality of us human beings. We may be images of God, but we have
to fend for ourselves.

Best regards,

Rajababu
