That thickness is on the order of microns. Micrometers. How does one
measure that?

Plastic isn't biodegradable. Actually it depends on which plastic, but I
don't think the plastic of thick bags is biodegradable, either.
Thin plastic may clog sewage lines, but wouldn't thick plastic cause more
clogging?
