That thickness is on the order of microns. Micrometers. How does one
measure that?
Thick plastic is not bio-degradable either. But people tend to
re-use thick plastic bags a sizeable number of times. Also thrown away
thick plastic bags will be picked up by the rag pickers for re-cycling
purpose, whereas no one is interested in picking the thin ones. So the thin
ones float arround causing the sewage and gutters to clog. Wandering cows
and goats sometimes swallow these plastics along with the leaves and die
suffocating. Recently plastic bags were discovered from the abdomen of
dead rouge elephants in the forest of Kerala.
