A R Mani beats Armani

A R Mani is a Canadian desi who owns the armani.com domain name. Of course, 
Armani took him to court over this arguing that Mani intentionally 
registered the name to cause confusion.

Mr Mani argued because his business had operated under the name 
A.R.Mani since 1981, he had at least as much right to the address as 
the fashion company. 

A panel of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United 
Nations body, cleared Mr Mani of cybersquatting, and dismissed Armani's 
complaint. 

Woohoo! Score one for the regular guy!!

Of course, the kicker would be if Anand Mani now sells the domain 
name to Armani for $$$. That'd be sweeet!

P.S. Domain name squatters, people who register a domain only to 
resell it at an obscene profit or to cause confusion to the legit site, 
are the lowest of the low breeds. They should be beaten, shot, dipped in 
tar, shot again, then smeared in honey and left tied down next to a hive 
of fire ants, with bamboo sticks stuck underneath their fingernails. 
Anything else is just extremism, IMO.
