Foreword by Rajababu: Festivals can degenerate into mere symbolism, if the
underlying subjects are forgotten. A woman take on different roles,
sometimes a sister, sometimes a wife. The man who doesn't respect a woman,
is bound to fall into a degenrative morass from which, only few can escape.
With great difficulty.


Rakhee

He was driving to his sister's house,
It was several minutes away, he revered 'rakhee',
Another ten minutes, and he would be there,
His sister would feed him delicacies, offer him an aartee,
He would renew his commitment,
And place his sister in his protective firmament.

Later, he was greeted into his sister's home,
She burst into joyous tears on seeing him,
His laadli, he hugged her close to his heart,
They renewed the sacred relationship,
Of siblings and a lifetime friendship.

She had purchased a costly ornament,
She placed it on his wrist.
She lit the aartee, and their faces got lit up.
With horror, and shock, he saw
That her lovely face,
Had dark bruises, he went into a haze,
Biting his lips, he realized that these resembled,
The ones his wife had, early morning.
