WHEN DEALING WITH WOMEN ...

When dealing with women, use anything but reason and logic.
They are older than cause and effect, and don't work by the
consequences of action

Their processes tick by an algorithm entirely unknown to
the civilized world. Even another women will not exactly
know how one will react to a situation, in which case they
are distinct, closed off islands, self centered, introverted,
essentially expediting whatever dire enterprise they may
find themselves involved in, with no reference to any 
context anyone else around them might find obvious.

Again, even when they react, they act by reasons only
they know, and presume should be obvious to you. The 
finer or coarse emotions by which a man may envisage 
issues are meaningless to them, and when they do seem to
be following these, they are merely doing so to please you or have
you believe they are like you in primitive essence.

For instance you may be liked and tolerated but not loved
as The Man in her life. Even then nay vacillation in you, any
sign of interest in another woman, many times even a man, 
will raise her ire and have her rein you in in short order and 
put you in the doghouse.

She may be angry when the issue is meaningless, furious
when the matter is over and done with and had no serious
consequence, aggrieved when nothing is lost, complacent
when the earth seems about to end.

All her reactions to causes unseen to you are out of any
kind of proportion. A slight by another woman in which
you played no part may never be forgiven till death, and
you would never hear the last of it. If after twenty years
it occurs to you to change tack and admit to some phantom
ill doing, just to get her off the matter, she will dig in deep
with an "I knew it! I always knew it!", and plan infliction
with renewed vigor.

Now all this has nothing to do with whether she loves you
or not. If one day you do get up the nerve to ask her why 
she acts this way, she will, with all candor say,

"It's because I love you, silly. Do you think I would care to
put so much energy in this if I did not?".

And she would smile, kiss you on the nose, pat you on
the head, and drop back to square one.

So does she mean it when she says she loves you?
You have better chances for an answer from Asoka's
pillar. The one in ancient Ghandhara made of a secret
alloy 2000 years ago, which does not rust, and is inscribed 
over in a tongue which no one alive can speak.
