I find that the debate about mumbai, maharashtrians, non-maharashtrians,
pak, christians etc in this list is often of a poor academic calibre, often
tainted by patent bias [sorry for my frank assessment; I hope i am wrong].
That is why I have kept out of it. Some on the list sent to me mails that
were in poor taste, but I am learning not to be perturbed by every thorn
that pricks while on march.

I am greatly impressed by Ninad's mail and background. India needs more and
more of such people. One thing has always struck me. During last 20 years, I
have often read about IIT graduates taking sanyas or  working for upliftment
of the society in many various ways. Ninad's group is obviously one such. I
saw 4 such persons, all young men, in a math in Vasant Vihar, Delhi,  about
15 years ago. I understand a few such engineers are also working with an
organisation called jiva in Faridabad, near Delhi. I understand they have
put Indian scriptures on the web and are working to promote Indian culture
and ayurveda in a big way. [BTW, I shall be grateful to anyone who might
tell me more about this organisation]. I have a hunch that Swami Agnivesh
also is an engineer, probably from IIT. He is well known for his services to
society. [I would be grateful for information about him as well].

I look forward to mails from Ninad to this list as well as to me personally.

. I am 35 yrs. old, I did my B. Tech and M. Tech and Ph.D (Electrical
Engineering) from IIT Mumbai in 1995, at that time my all batchmates (who
are also on this list Mandar Joglekar, Vishwas Patil, Abhijit Karve, Mihir
Phatak, Ashutosh Patankar, Nilesh Agawekar etc. etc.)were thinking that we
were very grateful towards our country since our country sponsored us for a
fantastic education in IIT. So we decided to give some of our years to our
country. Since everybody was from a well-to-do family when we guys declared
that we will be donating some of our future years for our country our
families didn't object.
> After that we worked in Assam for 2 years, in Jammu for 1 and 1/2 years
and in Orissa for around 1/2 years thru "SEVA" a non-profit social
organization. At that time we were not given any compensation, but we
survived b'coz of the support from local people. If I tell you our
experiences of that time, you will be shocked and moreover that's not the
"THEME" of this mail.

and they sent us to US for a research in "Superconductors", but here also
all of us were not happy b'coz we were away from our homeland. So we told GE
to send us back (Why GE sent us here was another storey...some other time).
Fortunately most of my friends went back and continue to work in GE and
continue to work in SEVA and unfortunately some of us are here waiting to
return back, so that once again we will get chance to serve our country.
