Tip of the day: "It is well to remember that the entire universe, with
one trifling exception, is composed of others." -- John Andrew Holmes

Mild comments:
1. Islam is not 1000 but 1500 years old.
2. What are you trying to say in the statement;
" what was hinduism doing when 1000 years old? kings and chieftains warring
with each other. stories of the 2 hindu epics, ramayana and mahabharata end
in wars. yes, triumph of good over evil, but it's war. the hindu
philosophy of life - the sacred bhagwad gita - was recited on a
battlefield."
When Hinduism was 1000 years old, it was about 6000 BC. Mahabharat occurred
about 5000 BC. If the sacred bhagwad gita, which is pure philosophy and
wisdom of life, acclaimed by all scholars till today, about the like of
which there is no parallel, was told on the battle field, does it eulogise
or denegrate the people of those times, as also their faith and religion
which they followed seriously even in times of war [which, the western
philosophy tells us, absolves anyone from any crime --- all is fair in
war!]? How can you compare such a religion with the holy wars perpetrated in
the name of religion by the islamic and christian armies? I am not concerned
here with religions or their superiority relative to each other. All
religions and religious teachings are lead to salvation. But when you talk
of historical facts, you must have the facts right. Also, what is wrong if
the stories of Mahabharat and Ramayan ended in wars? These epics record the
events as they actually happened, with necessary alteration in narration as
deemed necessary by the poet. If the events ended in war, would you like the
poet or the chronicler to falsify history?
3. You state that:
" but today i do want to gauge my "happiness quotient" against my own
goals."
You might be interested to note the following two findings:
A. Scientific studies published in reputed research journals have shown that
there is a certain happiness qutient inherent in an individual which is
determined not by his environment but by his innate happiness level, which,
in turn, is determined genetically to a tune of about 50%. In other words,
to clarify, at least 50% happiness is inherent in an individual, largely
genetically determined. The devastating effect of seemingly life shattering
events like loss of spouse, beloved, job, finances etc. lasts only 6 months,
rarely beyond 12 months. After that time we regain our inherent level of
happiness, whatever it be. The message is that external environment
determines our happiness to an extent not more than 50%. So please do not
gauge your happiness totally against the degree of achievement of your
goals. Goals keep on changing. We keep on missing goals. But there is no
reason why we keep on losing our happiness because of these.
" Badal jaye agar maali,
Chaman hota nahin khali,
Baharein phir bhi aati hain,
Baharein phir bhi ayengi."
4. I am totally surprised at your statement:
" why do we talk so much of family values and keep craving for it. why
"family
values" is an election issue second only to economic prosperity?"
Firstly, I am afraid you are totally on very slippery ground regarding
family values. Family is the very basic institution in sociology. Denying
the importance of family and family values is just impossible.
Secondly, what is the connection between elections and family values?
