oops! a little confusion here. in my agitated / emotional state i just wrote
out what i thought, from my gut feel, and mentioned events to corrorobate
the concept of the article. i admit i DID NOT check all the facts before
penning them. thanx for correcting me.

	> 4. I am totally surprised at your statement: "why do we talk so
much of family values and keep craving for it. > why "family values" is an
election issue second only to economic prosperity?"
	>
	> Firstly, I am afraid you are totally on very slippery ground
regarding family values. Family is the very basic institution in sociology.
Denying the importance of family and family values is just impossible.
Secondly, what is the connection between elections and family values?

i fully agree with you and am trying to say the same thing. family IS the
very basic institution in sociology. but at the same time 'in the US' and
other 'western & modern' societies, the average person craves for the family
values (s)he doesn't have / get. the average person is so lost / immersed in
self, that family takes a back-seat. and so they need to talk about the
values and make efforts to revive the system. a presidential candidate harps
on family values to endear himself to the voters. the voters need an empty
and vague movie like "american beauty" to feel good about themselves. to me
the movie just emblazoned the empty life of the hero.

	> the sacred bhagwad gita

i DID say the "sacred" bhagwat gita. by no means am i even suggesting
disagreement or disrespect for the gita and its teachings, or the people. my
only point of mentioning it was that all religions go through a growth and
maturity phase, for hinduism it was 7000 years ago.

i re-emphasise - all religions preach universal love and tolerance and
brotherhood (hinduism much more than others). the teachings are mis-used by
political and religious leaders for their own benefit.

to a tune of about 50%.

thanx for this info. i did not know this.
