Dear Nukkies
So the plot thickens. Here are my responses.
[Mubashir]
>Are we not being forced to read praises of Saraswati (which is for a Muslim
>is nothing >more then an idol)?
Well I’m not fully with you. Which are these verses? Are these unique to
Maharashtra alone (I assume you did your schooling in Maharashtra. Please
correct me if wrong.) I did my schooling in Kerala but don’t remember any
verses, which praise Saraswati. The only thing that we sang as a group is
the school anthem, which praises father of knowledge without any reference
to any religious deity. The song was composed by a famous Malayalam poet.
>Are we not being forced to hail the mother land as God which is anathema to
>a monotheist
I differ with regards to that interpretation. The education system urges an
individual to equate your homeland to your mother not as God. So what? This
is not a practice unique to India. Everywhere round the world it is the
same. Be it US UK, New Zealand, Australia anywhere. Anyone wishing to be a
citizen of a nation is required to swear an oath of allegiance. If any
objections are raised citing prohibition based on religious beliefs the most
certain outcome will be rejection of your application. My dear friend
religion should only be a guiding path to spiritual purity in life. It
shouldn’t dictate or mould your way of life and character. Moreover
religious scriptures are more akin to reference books. We should use our
ability of reasoning to absorb whatever is most apt and practical in our
day-to-day life. If one were to follow the practices as recommended by these
Holy books be it Bible, Quran, Gita or Granths, we will end up with a world
comprising of highly inhuman practices like Sati, child marriage, honor
killings, stoning of wronged women, and the list is endless (I’m no expert
in this field. So kindly bear in case there are omissions. All I’m trying is
to prove the point that a human being shouldn’t be totally led by religion,
it should only be a guide). Ours is a plural and secular democracy where
legislature leads our destiny and judiciary settles disputes not religious
heads. Why not leave it as it is.
>A party whose once President Murli Manohar Joshi is trying to propmote an
>utter irrational concept of Astrology, who is trying to rewrite history
>books, trying to remove all the mentions of Muslim contribution to
>India, trying to brainwash our kids through the medium of education.
I cannot categorically state anything about the former aspect but the latter
one is very much true and is a disturbing trend. Whatever happened in the
past whether the deeds were done by Alexander, Aladdin Khilji, Tuglaq,
Mughals or the British is nothing but history. Nothing is gained by raking
it up. Any attempt to rewrite history will be end up with drastic
consequences. Every secular minded individual should fight against this
practice in order to prevent building a generation built upon hatred and
intolerance.
>These people who are crying against missionaries will surely end up sending
>their own kids to missionary runs school
This reminds me of communists that I came across who are sworn atheists but
end up conducting their ward’s marriage in churches and temples.
[Ashwin]
>If you think we have the will and courage to destroy Holy places as u have
>said, then >you people are the most 'courageous' and have maximum 'will'
>power
Lets please stop addressing "you" and "me". There is only "we"
>practically the whole of North Indian temples were razed to the ground --
>millions not thousands were massacared and raped by the Islamic invaders in
>India
And will shouting about it bring back those temples to its original state.
Why target fellow countrymen to bear the cross for atrocities done by
medieval barbarians.
>National falg contains green as well as saffron
Well if saffron stands for Hindus and green for Muslims, then I should admit
that it is news to me. I remember learning in school that white stand for
peace and green stands for propsperity (forgot the saffron bit). Isn’t the
latter a better way to interpret our national flag than the former?
>That doesn't mean action should not be taken against them, if they indulge
>in anti-nationalist activities
Definitely action should be taken against those who indulge in ant national
activities. But does the matter end there. Will a couple of arrests remedy
the whole problem? Don’t we have a responsibility to address the core issue
as to why these youths are turning against the nation?
>Conversion of religion by force or money is correct or wrong?
I’m a Christian. But certainly I don’t support conversion with the aid of
money and coercion. A true missionary do selfless service without expecting
anything in reply like Mother Theresa.
>Killing people in the name of religion is right or wrong?
Certainly wrong. But wait, both Hindus as well as Muslims are guilty on this
account. Isn’t it?
>How many time u have heared that muslim or christian people were force
>fully >converted to hindu?

Now tell me, is this right or wrong?
What do u think should be done about POK?
What I’m stating is my personal opinion based on practical reality not
ethics or morals. Convert LOC into a permanent border. Whatever is presently
POK, leave it to Pakistan. Jammu & Kashmir should belong to India. Just like
East Punjab and West Punjab, West Bengal and Bangladesh, let West Kashmir
belong to Pakistan and East Kashmir belong to India. Enough is enough.
Instead of pumping crores of rupees and sacrificing our able bodied men let
us build better roads, communication facilities and improve our
infrastructure.
[MC Gupta]
>Three, resurgence of bjp in its new avtar from the ashes of Jan Sangh was
>largely a reaction to the appeasement policy of the congress from 1947 to
>1977 in favour of the so called religious minorities which included pro-pak
>and pro-khalistan groups
Agreed that there is some truth in this. But isn’t it a knee jerk reaction?
In what way is BJP better that Congress? Did the BJP tenure eliminate or
even weaken the so-called pro Pak elements in the country?
>I would like to comment on the word Hindutva. I do not know what is wrong
>with it and why it is being maligned. Hindutva is Hinduism
There is nothing wrong in Hindutva, provided if practiced in the true sense.
I came to know more about Ramayana and Mahabharat from my grandmother. I’m a
Christian not a Hindu. I rate those epics very high. I have more Hindu
friends than Christians. But one should not forget that there are some
elements in the society who try to impose their narrow and primitive vision
of Hinduism on others. Like rewriting history textbooks, glorifying Sati and
child marriage, denigrate women etc. It is these very people who earn a bad
name for Hindutva. Kindly tell me what have the so-called Hindutva parties
done to enhance Hinduism. How many of these politicians know Hindu teaching
and principles properly. Dear Guptaji, it is not the average non-Hindu who
is harming the cause of Hinduism. It is these unruly elements hell bent on
destroying communal amity for their narrow gains that tarnish the image of
Hinduism.
[Rohit Zaveri]
>I will be too happy to learn of one Indian muslim who says he did not take
>up a job assignment in Saudi Arabia, simply because that country does not
>entertain Hindus compatriots. Number of my christain friends have shown
>disgust at such a practice
Hello Rohit. Nice to hear from you after a long time. I’m happy that there
is at least one person who view Christians as mainstream Indians and not
brand and isolate them on the basis of the acts of some evangelists.
[Akshay]
Your posting seems to me as an exercise to score points. Do we really need
this? Isn’t it time to forget the past and look for a better tomorrow? Isn’t
it time we identify the real culprits i.e. politicians who divide people
along communal and caste lines? Isn’t it better to take someone belonging to
a religious minority (oops here I’m uttering that word) into confidence
rather than isolating him so that he can be an ambassador for the community?
Just my humble opinion.
Bye
