[nukkad] independence day thought

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: How much is an hour of your time worth?
Work An Hour for India

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

..On 30 May 1999, Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari, 29, of 18 Grenadiers laid

down his life in a brave attempt to capture the Tololing Feature. He died

exactly nine days ahead of his first marriage anniversary.

In his memory, the Oberoi

Group spruced up the Rs 47000 a day Kohinoor suite of its Amar Vilas Hotel

in Agra, a room from where Mr. and Mrs. Musharraf treated themselves to a

romantic view of the Taj, from the bathrooms as well.

Rajshri Rathode, 21, a war widow from Ahmedabad

was six-months pregnant when

her courageous husband went down fighting hard on

the inhospitable Tiger

Valley terrain. As a tribute to her sacrifice, Prime

Minister Vajpayee passed a firmament that all wishes of

Begum

Musharraf be uncompromisingly

met, including assorted cultural programmes, musical recitals and dance

performances, and a guided shopping spree in Agra.

98 women of Vishranti, an old age home in Chennai, had nothing to

contribute to the Kargil cause so they undertook a day's fast and donated

Rs 1700 saved on food for the war effort. In recognition of their

honourable deed, for the luncheon hosted by the PM, the most delicious, the

most expensive gourmet spread was readied for the General and his

entourage, with expert chefs being flown in to five-stars so that our

friendly neighbours could br treated to the finest India can offer. Not

only that, Chef Ramesh Jhingon of the fancy Amar Vilas promised that any

sort of food the General and his contingent demand, Italian, Mediterranean,

Indian... was to be served without a moment's delay.

The army career of 47-year-old Sudham Chandra Mahapatra ended with an

accident.

Confined to a wheel chair, but the spirit and patriotism still intact, he

volunteered to donate an eye and a kidney to any injured jawaan. "To a

cabbage like me, they are useless in any case", he explained. In

recognition of his contributions, General Musharraf had gupshup over High

Tea with the Hurriyat leaders, discussed the Kashmir problem with them and

arrived at a solution too, with the trained Dilli butlers doing the

Kashmiri Kehwa/ Tangdi Kebab/ Cauliflower Chaat service on this momentous

occasion.

Satarupa Das, 6, takes the 5.30 am train to Dum Dum every day, and chants

Rabindrasangeet and collect money for Kargil.

She would do that every

day, to and fro from school and the little girl

managed to collect a

thousand rupees in loose change. In recognition of

her artistic talent and

passion, the Indian Government commissioned

the celebrated artist MF Husain

to etch out an exclusive painting, which the PM

personally presented to Musharraf. Husain especially

flew down to Agra for

inspiration, barefoot I'm

told, and sat up all night to finish his masterpiece.

Captain Haneef Uddin, 24, a music fan, died gallantly fighting a bitter gun

battle on the treacherous Turtuk mountainside. He soldiered on despite

artillery bombardment from an enemy placed at a height. This is his proud

mother Hema Aziz, who lost her husband when Haneef was just 7, photographed

next to her dead son's picture.

In his memory, six Qawwali groups of the

Hazrat Nizammuddin Dargah fought intensely to be the ones chosen to perform

in front of Mr. and Mrs. Musharraf. Finally, one member from each team was

selected for the rare honour, so that all could go back to their respective

Gharanas happy, having had the distinction of regaling their favourite

Prez.

1500 prostitutes from Delhi's Red Light GB Road gave up their earnings from

a week's hard work to raise money for the war effort. Our hearts go out to

the widows of the dead soldiers, they said. In appreciation, the entire

Daryaganj area in Old Delhi was rebuilt so that if the General dropped by

to pay a visit to his ancestral home for a few seconds, he finds no filth,

rubbish, hindrances and unsuitable women along the way.

SO TODAY I FEEL BETRAYED - NOT BY MY NATION - BUT BY MY OWN CHOSEN LEADERS.

1948 - GANDHI GAVE THEM 55 CRORES AS AID, THEY TOOK 1/3rd OF KASHMIR.

1965 - WE GAVE THEM WATER FROM 3 OF OUR RIVERS, THEY GAVE US WAR.

1971 - WE GAVE THEM 91,000 PRISONERS OF

WAR, THEY

CHEATED US BY

DISHONORING

SHIMLA AGREEMENT.

1999 - WE GAVE THEM LAHORE AGREEMENT, THEY GAVE US KARGIL.

2001 - WE HAVE INVITED THEM TO AGRA -

WHAT DO YOU

THINK THEY WILL GIVE

US?

THERE IS A THIN LINE BETWEEN NICENESS AND STUPIDITY

- OUR LEADERS CROSSED IT A LONG TIME AGO

THINK ABOUT IT

Jai Hind
