It is a good logic you have provided.  But unfortunately this is true only in the case of block busters(viruses sending mails in blocks) and not for others.

Many viruses activate the infection process only when the send transaction takes place.

My observation is only the users of outlook express is the most vulnerable to these sort of viruses.  The reason is, their browser may be java script enabled.  To make it big story short, this is enough for the codes get the freedom of infiltration and destroy the resources.

To avoid this, uncheck(disable) the java script enable option.

Mind well this is not the only way to avoid virus, but this will sure restrict them.
