Tip of the day: "Euphoria is not a business strategy" -- Louis Rossetto
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Rajababu,
I do not have to rise up to Homi's defence. He is a genius and an erudite
person. But, thinking seriously and dispassionately, I do not find anything
wrong with what Homi said.
He stated: "When dealing with women, use anything but reason and logic. They
are older than cause and effect, and don't work by the consequences of
action"
To me, his words mean the following:
1. Compared to men, women make more use of their right brain. Men find it
difficult to look beyond logic. [Those who do, only get the, so called,
sideline careers like painters, poets, dancers, musicians etc., compared to
physics, management, IT, CA etc.; personally, though, I think all branches
are equally important]. Women have more use for the heart. In terms of
parapsychology, one might hazard a guess that they have more sixth sense
than men.
2. Being logical is no great virtue; being a follower of one's gut feelings
and convictions and heart's feelings is no vice. The latter is often more
difficult. Anar kali would not have chosen to be buried alive for sake of
her love. Women who commit sati out of genuine free will or commit suicide
when molested, or are ready to face a lion or a goonda to save their child
do so on impulse, on emotion, not on cold logic. The latter would tell them
that it is foolish to die for one already dead, for losing something as
intangible as chastity, or fighting a beast and get killed in the process,
leaving the child a motherless orphan.
If you take the narrow interpretation that women are illogical and foolish,
you would certainly feel troubled. I am sure neither Homi, nor you, nor me,
nor anybody else on this list of intellectuals would subscribe to that false
notion.
