[nukkad] Independence day

Some list members wondered whether there is any reason to be happy on our
independence day! I already sent an appropriate response. Just to share a
few personal events on the last independence day.

My son, a computer engineer on HB-1, who had been laid off in CA like many
others, was trying for an opening for a month, but all he got was offers
from the east coast etc. On 15th august, he was invited for not one but two
interviews on that day itself, both in Bay area. Both interviews went fine,
and he might be joining Monday.

Having taken voluntary retirement from professor's job in Feb., I decided to
devote time to pursue further studies of my choice, to write books, to work
in the area of health law, and, possibly, to start practice as an advocate
in Supreme Court. On 16th, [15th was a holiday and offices were closed], I
get, unexpectedly, a rather lucrative telephonic offer to join as consultant
in the area of health sector reforms and assess and liase with health
institutions and infrastructure in India and Europe.

Mu only comment is: Nothing is really good or bad. It all depends on
perceptions. It is, very often, the case of the half glass syndrome. Should
we be happy that the glass is half full, or lament that it is half empty?
The choice is ours. We may rue or rejoice on our independence day. But the
day will keep on coming every year, and those who want to be happy will
certainly continue to do so.
