Re: Dreams of an Independent Indian

Tip of the day: Use The Force... Work An Hour... Educate Underprivileged Children.

It was nice reading this article. A few comments follow:

1. Ref: "In the capital city of New Delhi, vultures are dying as they feed
on
carcasses of dead animals -- there is an excess of pesticides in their
flesh, you see."

That was old theory that held sway for 15-20 years. Now it has been shown
that vultures are dying not of pesticides but of some as yet unknown cause.
The problem is so acute in Bombay that there are no vultures available to
eat up the bodies left on the tower.

2. Ref: ". I want my
education minister to know the power of literacy. I do not want him to
change my son's history books to suit his party's line."

Ministers do not write books. Syllabus is made by educationists, books are
written by scholars and both are approved by concerned experts in NCERT, UGC
etc. Assuming, for a moment, that the whole educational system and scholars
etc. are not doing their job, why blame a minister for it? If we do not have
a backbone, we deserve to fall. Why blame someone else for not supporting
us?
