Ganesh Chaturthi.
This day is celebrated as the arrival of Shri.
Ganeshji. In Maharashtra, this festival is
celebrated in a very big n huge way. This was started
by Shri. Bal Gangadhar Tilak (A prominent
freedom fighter from Maharashtra, popularly known as
LOKMANYA) during his freedom fighting
struggle with British Government. He started this so
that ppl will come together and thru this
he can convey his message of "SWARAJ IS MY BORN
RIGHT". Now a days this is celebrated in entire
Maharashtra n during this festival approximately 100
Cr. worth transactions are done so this
festival is not only a social even but also a major
economical event in Maharashtra. Pune's 
Ganesh Festival is one such big. Last year
approximately 3.16 million ppl attended the "VISARJAN
PROCESSION" n ppl from all over the world do come here
n enjoy the festival. Shri. Ganeshji is
looked upon as the God of Wisdom, Culture n which will
kill all the evils in the world.
