DIL CHAHTA HAI ...

[A poem inspired by the title]

Dil chahta hai, kisey pa lun
Pa na saka, kisey kho lun

Zindagi bila yar*, kyun jiye ham
Dil na dildar, kahan milei hamdam*

Jaise bhatke ruh*, bila kisi jism* ke
Ham baurane*, ik lawaris kism* ke

Kahena kah diya, abh jana hai door
Kahani puri hui, abh hazir* me Hazur.*

Odd words -
yar - traditional term for Lover in Persian verse

Bahadur Shah zafar, the last tragic Moghul, write
in his prison in Rangoon, 

"Dou ghaz zamin na mili, kuhe Yaar mei."

hamdam - hamsafar, again Lover, one who 
draws same breath

ruh - soul, atma, jeev, sukshma
jism - kaya, thos sharir, mundane body

baurane - pagal, witless, a common Kabiri usage
Old Grouch had a lot of use for it.

kism - type, kind of

hazir - in the presence
Hazur - this one I won't tell
