Hi,
The name of the edible dish, 'buffalo wings' used to baffle me all the
time. Though me a vegetarian, I used to wonder, and ask those who ate
buffalo wings about what they were and was always told though ofcourse, they
were not the wings of a buffalo, but got no idea where the dish got the
name..

Perhaps some of us more may be as baffled as i was ( i assume)...so when,
now, I got the info on the issue, i thought of sharing it with you all.

Cheers
Ragini

It goes like this :
Buffalo wing is a deep-fried chicken wing coated with a spicy sauce and
usually served with a blue cheese dressing.

They're named for Buffalo, New York, where they were first
served. After the big game, the coaches treated the entire team to
pizza and buffalo wings at their favorite restaurant.
So New York gave its name to "buffalo wings" after the spicy dish
was introduced there in the 1980s.

Other places that have given their names to food items include Colby,
Wisconsin; Gorgonzola, Italy; Camembert, France; and Edam, Netherlands --
all of those places put cheeses on the map. Peking duck, Boston cream pie,
and Worcestershire sauce are some more examples. And let's not forget the
hamburger, which was named for the city of Hamburg,
Germany.
