RE: [nukkad] Rama: a myth or reality

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: Never piss off those who handle your food or money, or have access
to your bedroom - Don W.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Ha. Raa. Divekar had submitted his doctoral thesis to Paris University
on similar subject. I have read the book that resulted from it. The book is
in Marathi. "Aamacha Mahabharatpoorva raajakeeya va samajik itihaas". (Our
political and social history of pre-Mahabharat period.) His work is
objective. That is, he takes no cognisance of any miracle.

He gives the points in time not as dates, but as so many generations after
xyz or before abc. That is a good enough relative timeline.

He clearly says Rama was a historical person. One of Rama's lesser known
contribution to India is, Rama was the first king to divide his kingdom into
his successors. Before Rama, the eldest son would succeed the king. Other
sons would leave the kingdom and establish new kingdoms (by cutting the
forest or conquering an existing one.) Or serve the king. Ostensibly by the
time of Rama, much of the forests in gangetic India were cut and not much
scope remained for new establishments. So, Rama divided his kingdom into
eight parts and gave them to his two sons and sons of Lakshmana, Bharata and
Shatrughna.

Thanks and Regards,

Vilas D. Virdhe
