What is wrong with encouraging additional spending during festive periods, 
be it Ganesh Chaturthi, Ramzan  or Christmas?  Doesn’t the consequential 
economic activity benefit the society as a whole? Isn’t it better to 
celebrate festivals as mainstream events rather than limiting it to periods 
of worship by a select religious group? There is definitely the peril of  
losing sanctity because of excessive commercialisation. But I believe the 
benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. Just my humble opinion.
