Dear Concerned Indians
                      So the discussion about a controversial ritual is 
slowly drifting into Veg vs Non Veg. I'm no expert on diets, but from my 
limited knowledge I beleive one should have a balanced diet comprising of 
leafy vegetables as well as meat and fish in the right amounts. If 
westerners are successful and prosperous the reason is their right attitude 
and professionial work ethic and has nothing to do with what they eat, be it 
Steaks, Sausages, Masal Dosa or Raitha. Any way let us keep that aside for 
the time being and come back to the real issue.

There are two issues related to the ritual in question. One is the anxiety 
to know whether it is being practiced by anyone in India? From Mubashir's 
clarification I take it for granted that it has nothing to do with 
mainstream Islam and is the handiwork of a cult group. The second and the 
more serious issue is when someone go on record and issue press statements 
stating that this is a documented Islamic practice in India. For your 
information this was the main headline news item in the 6'O Clock TV news 
last Sunday. Evening news being the most viewed program in NZ, imagine the 
kind of coverage this story received. Citing from my personal experience, I 
received a lot of questions and enquiries about such practices in India from 
fellow colleagues. Similar instances were expressed by other Indian populace 
here. Now when someone is confronted with such uncomfortable questions the 
only feeling he or she experiences is utter embarrasment irrespective of 
whether his faith is Islam, Christianity, Hinduism or Sikhism. The damage is 
to the image of India as a whole, irrespective of  whether such practices 
are conducted by Islamic cults, Bhagwan Rajneesh or radical Christian 
groups. The need of the hour is to make the mainstream relegious authorities 
(in this case Islamic authorities) in India aware of such rituals under the 
guise of documented practices and the kind of damage that can bring to the 
community as a whole. Passing the buck is not going to help the situation in 
any way.

BTW I have no objection to the subject Veg vs Non Veg, and is more than 
willing to participate in any further debates based on it.
