Shiv Sainiks set the Singhania Hospital in Thane on fire on Sunday evening,
following the death of Anand Dighe at the hospital.
Dighe, who was the violent face of the Sena, was admitted there two days ago
after he sustained injuries in a road accident. He died today after a heart
attack.

As news of his death spread, Shiv Sainiks went on a rampage, destroying the
hospital. After breaking all the glass, they set upon the pillars before
setting the building on fire.

The Sainiks had also shut off the electricity supply to the hospital and
sealed all exit routes. Nothing was known about the condition of other
patients in the hospital.

With Shiv Sainiks out in large numbers, there is a riot-like situation in
Thane. The Mumbai Police have so far stood by helplessly.

Anand Dighe has been described as the "terrorist face" of the Sena.
Considered to be very close to Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, Dighe was
notorious for allegedly cutting to pieces Sena corporator Sridhar Khopkar.

Khopkar had once voted with the Congress in a motion in the Thane Municipal
Corporation. His killing is held up as an example for those who oppose or
betray the Sena cause in Mumbai. Dighe and his band would threaten people by
saying: "We will make a Sridhar Khopkar of you."
