Dear Mubashir
Thanks for the article. That was a good insight into the
student organisation in news now a days. A few comments however.
1. I feel the greeting "Assalaam Alaikum" is very inappropriate. It only
gives a Pan Islamic image to the organisation. An appropriate Urdu greeting
would have been more apt exhibiting the Indo Islamic character. If the
reasoning is to score a quick one against opponent Hindu fundamentalist
organisation, then shall I put forward a counter question. Is Bajrang Dal a
role model to be emulated? By stooping low to that level isn’t SIMI sending
out the message that they are in no way different?
2. From my understanding a Madrasa is something similar to Sunday Schools
conducted by churches. In other words Madrasas are part and parcel of
Islamic religious establishment. How come a student organisation like SIMI
is associated with the running of Madrasas?
3. SIMI president states that the main objective of the organisation are
character building, fight against sexual anarchy, moral degradation etc. But
isn’t these attributes directly linked to good parenting? Can any
organisation circumvent the role of parenting and the need for an ideal and
healthy environment at home? Isn’t it better for a student organisation to
look into the welfare and problems faced by fellow students in campuses
rather taking on the role of a moral arbitrator?
4. Can’t a budding journalist and a Unani doctor help uplifting the Muslim
community (as claimed by them) in their professional capacities rather than
donning the rob of communal leaders?
5. Finally if RSS and BJP are conducting a witch hunt to nail SIMI (once
again based on the leader’s claim), isn’t it a better strategy to come out
clean by conducting a financial audit and declaring all source of funds?
Wouldn’t it take the steam out of the whole issue?
The above comments are based on my observation of the article. You (or
anyone on the list) are free to correct me if wrong. Being a Christian
myself, I hope my observations are treated by everyone as impartial and
unbiased (especially Hindu and Muslim list members). But however any debate
should be conducted in a civilised manner. No mud slinging please.
Bye
