Thanks for your suggestion. But the problem persists. You advised as
follows:


"You need to 'Shut down to MS-DOS mode' to avoid this. Even when you
close all programs, the Windows operating system that is running will
write periodically to the disk. When you go to MS Dos, only one task
is running - the one you define.

Start -> Shutdown -> Shutdown to MS-DOS mode

At the prompt 'C:\WINDOWS>', type scandisk
and it will run fine. At the end of the normal operation it will ask
if you wish to do a 'surface scan'. Say yes. If there is a problem
with your hard disk you will be given the choice of creating a backup
of some data on a floppy disk."


My computer has Windows millenium. This version does not give the option
"shut down to MS-DOS mode". So I did as follows:
Start> Programs> Accessories> MS-DOS prompt. This gives the prompt as
C:WINDOWS>. Then I typed Scandisk. It started working, but again the same
message appeared --- Scan disk has restrted 10 times ----.Is there some
other way?
