RE: A query - what would you do?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: What we need is either less corruption, or more chance to
participate in it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would not have much sympathy for the lady. She could have come earlier by
better planning. Even if she had planned properly and because of force
majeure she was late, then she was late. What if the window had closed at 12
noon itself?

As far as $100 is concerned, I would weigh that money with the cost I would
incur by losing that day and coming again the next day. If it turned out
beneficial, I would accept the deal.

I had a similar real life experience. I was waiting in a long queue at the
railway reservation counter. I was about 10th or fifteenth in line. This
lady came with her 13-14 years old daughter. She obviously did not want to
stand in the queue. She tried to talk in general to nobody in particular
about how urgent it was for her to get a ticket etc. Everyone heard her.
Then she said as conclusion to her long speech that this person won't object
if her daughter stands ahead of him in the queue. She had chosen me for this
act of chivalry. probably I seemed suave and calm. But to her surprise I
took my head out of the newspaper I was reading and sternly told her that
the girl could not stand in front of me. She withdrew and tried the same
with other people. Others also did not allow. Then the woman lost all her
patience and began cursing all of us (like "you don't have sympathy for a
woman.."). She went quite a few steps ahead when she started threatening the
men in the queue saying that they are misbehaving with her and her daughter
and would call police. Now amusement was over and all the people including
the ladies were very disapproving of the lady. She had to beat a retreat.

If she had stood at the queue when she entered, she could easily have walked
away with a ticket.

Thanks and Regards,

Vilas D. Virdhe

She is desperate. She offers $100 (or equivalent in local currency) to
ANYONE for their place in the line. What would you do?
