These figures are doubtlessly approximations and would not stand to
statistical tests. But even if they are off by a quarter, the cost in human
life
stupendous.

Also this study does not mean to say simply having a faith causes so
much bloodshed.

Perhaps the message is that when faith becomes explicit, and political,
and masks power and control issues, faith becomes the reason which
causes a great number of people, who hitherto were living peacefully
as brothers, turn against each other and kill.

Despots have through ages used faith to wage wars which further
their own singular political ambitions.

People through ages have become willing dupes because they never
had the courage to stand up to despots and say they would not
be used.
