In the wake of the alleged conversations between Sanjay Dutt and Chhota
Shakeel, we examine the status of the relationship between the underworld
and the film industry. We definitely concurred that Bollywood is indeed
scared of the Bhais. Here's why...

WHAT THE BHAIS DO

Anees Ibrahim( Dawood's brother)
He invests in films and also buys off rights. He is not involved in
extortion.

Chhota Shakeel
He is involved in extortion and also invests in films He does not buy off
rights.

Abu Salem
Basically into extortion and buying off rights. He does not invest his
extorted money in films

Chhota Rajan
He is more of a financier who prefers to just invest in films. No extortion
or buying rights for him.

Dawood Ibrahim
He has now risen above Bollywood. No more filmi chakkars for Dawood now.

THE PHONE CALLS
A talk with around 20 filmmakers and stars - all of who requested not to be
named - revealed that they received calls from the underworld at some time
or the other. Others, who don't, never want to come out in the open for fear
of receiving calls from the underworld. "Everyone is very scared. We know
that the phones are also being tapped. People who get calls from the
underworld are in a Catch-22 situation. If we talk politely or in a friendly
manner with the gangsters, we get into trouble with the cops, else we get
into trouble with the gangsters themselves," says a leading producer.
"If you hear or read the alleged conversations between leading Bollywood
people and the underworld you will understand the amount of friendly talks
that happen are plainly due to pressure," says a prominent actress.

SETTING THE TONE
When a star gets calls from the underworld, he/she know what the tone is. A
leading hero says, "I once got a call from a bhai who said that he wanted me
to work in a film being produced by one guy. I told him that I did not have
the said dates as it was with another producer. Immediately he told me that
he would get the dates okayed after talking to the filmmaker. And then he
says, "Aur bacche kaise hain?" what do you expect me to do in such a
situation?" says he.
A few filmmakers do not even pick up their mobile phones today for fear of
the underworld. Some of them even have their business managers pick up a
parallel mobile phone. No one knows when the underworld will come calling.
