---------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to Write Effective Mailing List Email http://www.digital-web.com/tutorials/tutorial_1999-12.shtml ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am taking an unconventional step of posting on nukkad a message from another list which I found extremely nice. This is done now and then by others also. The unusual part is that the contributor on that other list is a member of this list also. Mr. L Suresh Kumar is to the AOISCN list [Analysis of Indian Subcontinental News] what Harshal is to nukkad. He has joined nukkad recently, and we should all feel privileged at it. I have chosen to repost his message here in the hope that he will not mind it. The message follows. MC Gupta ====================================================================== From: "L. Suresh Kumar-LSK" Subject: Re: [IndiaForeignPolicy] Give Kashmir to Pakistan and reunite the subcontinent Faisal, Arif, Friends As an Indian and as a Hindu, I have no hatred towards Pakistan and Islam and other nations/religions. OTOH, Pakistan was created and still exists on the basis of its hatred of India, Hindus and anything to do with India. It is this hatred that sustains Pakistan than democracy itself. After 1971, Bangladesh which went the Islamic way with an Islamic constitution, is not too far from emulating Pakistan. In India, there is democracy and freedom of press/religion/dress ... et al. In Pakistan, only the freedom to promote Islamic fanaticism exists. Freedom is anethma to Pakistan. Non Muslim minorities have very little or no rights in Pakistan. With that the case, Pakistan's claims to J&K is just based on Islam, nothing else. As for Pakistan's treatment of Mohajirs and nonMuslims, the less said the better. After all, how could intellectuals take pride in Ghaznavis and Ghouris who plundered the land now known as Pakistan and whose ancestors were all Hindus/Sikhs/Jains/Buddhists at one point in time ? Its better to have a balkanised Pakistan, where the existing minorities (who still have not been ethnic cleansed by Pakistan) can live in smaller nations with more freedom and liberties than in Pakistan. After all, intellectuals want freedom and liberty, right ? :-) Or would Muslim intellectuals from Pakistan prefer the nonMuslim minorities should live under tyrannical Islamic laws which deny equal rights to nonMuslims ? Perhaps one should always remember that Pakistan eliminated intellectuals in its 1971 massacre in Bangladesh. The bottom line is : It is not J&K which is the root cause. It is the Islamic fanaticism that ails the sub-continent, the Middle East and now the whole world. Reuniting nations is not just about realigning borders. It is about realigning the mindsets, sharing commonalities, and taking pride in our heritage, culture, and many other issues. When Pakistan and Bangladesh consider themselves to be Islamic first, such a reunion is only a mirage. For their (Pakistanis') Islamic identity will force them to deny their past, their Hindu past, the nonIslamic portion of the history of the sub-continent, and thus it is intellectually impossible to defend such a narrow mindset when clamouring for reunion. But what forces them (Pak. and BDesh) to deny their past ?
