I have read a book (I think it was: The road less travelled). It has
very scientifically analysed and postulated about the incidence of love.

It defines it as, quite near to what Max wrote:

Love is the state of collapse of ego boundaries between two or more
persons.

A person forgets about me and him/her. A person forgets about mine and
his/her. 

Someone in love includes the loved one in his own mental frame so that
he thinks and feels about the loved one the way he/ whe would think
about himself/ herself.

I am not sure about the book. It is by a psychoanalyst and very
beautiful written about various emotions. Must read.
