I would just like to state my opinion here.

This aggressive connotation is again subject to interpretation.

I will differ with Azim here.

Jihad essential means struggle wherein they can be classified as jihad with
the self and jihad with the world.

Personal jihad is jihad with the self i.e. to conquer your shortcomings,
your weaknesses, your demons.
Jihad with the world is to conquer the shortcomings with the world around
you.

But, it is wrongly interpreted by religous leaders who brainwash followers
of the religion

Again this is a matter of interpretation. Christ says to his disciples go
and proclaim my word.
But he does not say bribe, threaten, burn, kill and convert them forcibly.

This notion arises in the mind of the those who read the book and interpret
these words in that way.

Moderates are outnumbered (or outshouted) by fundamentalism.
This is a feature of all religions.

If a moderate Hindu says I don't want any temple to be built he will be
called a
weak or ignorant Hindu by the fundamentalist element in Hinduism.
