Now I am simply theorising, so the red eyed Nationalist Vande-
Matramist should not take this as secular treason.
Maybe, except in times of great kings like Chandragupta and
Asoka, India as we see as one nation today never really existed.
The forces which were divisive were Caste, tribal identity, ancient
enmity, language and culture. And these were far greater than a
nationalistic cohesive force which could keep so many diverse
entities in one fold.
The first time in the last millennium that India as one nation came
to be a reality was when the Moguls such as Akbar made it.
After this, the English followed suit because they more or less
inherited a nationalistic India from Bahadur Shah Zafar.
The English leave, India breaks apart by the force of religious
intolerance and political opportunism becomes two, India and
Pakistan. In time, the same forces rend it further apart in to an
additional Bangladesh.
By the same token, Sanskrit, the bhasha of priest, would never
have taken center stage. Nor could it ever be a cohesive force
in a disparate land such as India.
Today, India stands together by the structure the British gave
to it.
Can this be strong enough to survive disruptive elements?
Arya.
