---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A book is the only immortality. -- Rufus Choate ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could any Tom Clancy fan please give a list of his novels a small summary of each (don't disclose the suspense). -Rawat Well, I don't qualify as a Tom Clancy fan. I have ready only one of his books. I forgot the title. The plot is like this: At a busy air force base in Israel, amidst confusion caused by a fire, a nuclear bomb gets loaded onto a fighter plane instead of a conventional bomb. Since it was not primed for deployment, the bomb doesn't explode and is embedded somewhere in Syria. The old farmer is afraid to report the matter to police. When his son comes of age he reports presence of a strange object in his backyard to a contact. A terrorist outfit comes to know and sensing it is not a conventional bomb takes it away. It is nuclear device and through the terrorist network they hire a disgruntled nuclear scientist to convert it to a live bomb. A red Indian American terrorist is also involved in the project. There are side plots of submarines playing dangerous war games, which somehow doesn't fit into the main plot and bores you through several pages. An American Super Intelligence Cop moots a solution to the Middle east problem. An ambitious Presidential advisor complicates the palace intrigues. Terrorists bomb a houseful football stadium in US with the nuclear device killing thousands including Secretary of State. The Super cop defies orders of the prez and averts nuclear war with Russia. He also manages to get approval of Saudi King, Pope, Israel for his peace formula and all is well. The world again becomes a place worth living. For a thriller, Clancy has stretched the narration to breaking point with unnecessary subplots and side plots. Several pages are an ordeal to read. Good points about the book are (1) foreseeing a major terrorist strike in US easily bypassing security precautions. (2) A peace formula for ME, though fictional. Have I succeeded in whetting your appetite for Tom Clancy? The undisclosed part is the title of the book. Well, you asked me to keep the suspense, didn't you?
