Well, I don't qualify as a Tom Clancy fan. I have ready only one of his
 books. I forgot the title.

The plot is like this: At a busy air force base in Israel, amidst confusion
 caused by a fire, a nuclear bomb gets loaded onto a fighter plane instead
of
a conventional bomb. Since it was not primed for deployment, the bomb
 doesn't explode and is embedded somewhere in Syria. The old farmer is
afraid
 to report the matter to police. When his son  ...

Tom Clancy is an eminently readable thriller writer.
In one of his novels, a lone Japanese pilot, with a grudge against the U.S.
actually drives his plane into the Capitol building, instantly killing the
President , about 400 senators/congressmen who had gathered there for a
joint session.
This plot is believed to have inspired OBL to carry out the 9/11 massacre!!
A sequel to this story is also there.

The book you mentioned is called : THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.
Others like : RED SUN RISING, etc. are also good.
