US airline to fly passengers free on September 11

US carrier Spirit Airlines announced it will not charge anyone for flying
September 11, the one-year anniversary of deadly terror attacks on the
United States.

"We are saying 'thank you' to the American public and our valued customers
for flying with us throughout this past year," Spirit Chief executive Jacob
Schorr said in a statement.

"Had it not been for the support of our passengers and their willingness to
get back in the air after the tragedy last year, then spirit airlines may
not have survived."

The company said the offer is good for those booking flights by September 8
through the airline's web site or travel agents.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Spirit said it will be flying a full schedule
on September 11, with more than 90 flights to 14 destinations in the
continental US and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

United Airlines and American Airlines, whose aircraft were hijacked for the
September 11 attacks, have cancelled flights with similar departure times
and routings on the day of the first anniversary.
